Work History

Specialty Radiology Doctor

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust
Birmingham
09.2024 - 08.2025
  • As a diagnostic radiologist working in a busy secondary and tertiary care setting, I performed and reported abdominal, vascular, testicular and superficial ultrasound examinations in both adult and paediatric populations, including emergency, inpatient, and outpatient referrals.
  • My case mix included assessment of acute abdominal pain, hepatobiliary disease (cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, biliary obstruction), chronic liver disease, renal colic, hydronephrosis, abdominal masses and ascites. Vascular cases include deep venous thrombosis. Other cases include testicular swelling and epididymoorchitis
  • In paediatric patients, I evaluated suspected appendicitis, pyloric stenosis, intussusception, urinary tract abnormalities, neonatal abdominal pathology, undescended testis and inguinoscrotal hernias
  • I ensured appropriate probe selection and optimisation of depth, gain, and Doppler settings to enhance diagnostic accuracy. I routinely performed dynamic assessment, including graded compression in suspected appendicitis and Doppler evaluation in suspected vascular compromise.
  • My ultrasound findings directly influenced clinical decision-making, including urgent surgical referrals for appendicitis, identification of obstructive uropathy requiring intervention, and differentiation between medical and surgical causes of abdominal pain.
  • In addition to ultrasound, I report plain radiographs, CT, and MRI across a broad range of acute and elective indications. This has strengthened my ability to correlate ultrasound findings with cross-sectional imaging, improving diagnostic accuracy and clinical confidence. I routinely integrate imaging findings with clinical context and participate in multidisciplinary discussions to support patient-centred management. I prioritise ultrasound as a radiation-free first-line modality, particularly in children, in line with best practice and patient safety principles.

Junior Clinical Fellow

Glan Clwyd NHS Trust
Rhyl, Denbighshire
09.2023 - 08.2024
  • During my placement in the neonatal department at Glan Clwyd Hospital, I developed significant experience in neonatal imaging, with particular emphasis on cranial ultrasound. I independently performed cranial ultrasound examinations in preterm and term neonates for indications including intraventricular haemorrhage screening, hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy, ventriculomegaly, and suspected hydrocephalus. I became proficient in optimising image acquisition through appropriate probe selection, fontanelle windows, depth and gain adjustment, and serial monitoring of evolving pathology. I correlated imaging findings with clinical presentation and laboratory parameters to support timely management decisions.
  • In addition to performing scans, I provided structured bedside teaching to junior colleagues on neonatal cranial ultrasound technique and image interpretation. I also taught neonatal chest and abdominal X-ray interpretation, with particular focus on line and tube positioning, respiratory distress syndrome, pneumothorax, and early radiographic signs of necrotising enterocolitis.
  • I reported neonatal chest and abdominal radiographs, ensuring accurate assessment of lung pathology, bowel gas patterns, and central line placement.
  • Alongside imaging responsibilities, I carried out core clinical duties within the neonatal unit, including cannulation, blood sampling, requesting investigations, participating in ward rounds, and delivering case presentations. This integration of clinical and imaging roles strengthened my ability to interpret radiological findings within the broader neonatal context and enhanced multidisciplinary collaboration.

Senior Registrar

University College Hospital
Ibadan, Nigeria
12.2013 - 11.2019
  • During my time at University College Hospital, Ibadan, a high-volume tertiary referral centre, I developed extensive experience in diagnostic radiology, with ultrasound forming a central component of my clinical practice.
  • I independently performed and reported a broad spectrum of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, vascular Doppler, testicular, thyroid, and other superficial soft tissue studies. My abdominal ultrasound experience encompassed assessment of hepatobiliary disease, chronic liver pathology, renal and urinary tract abnormalities, abdominal masses, ascites, and acute abdominal presentations. I routinely performed vascular Doppler studies for arterial and venous assessment, and evaluated acute scrotal pain, thyroid nodules, and superficial soft tissue lesions.
  • I developed strong technical proficiency in probe selection, optimisation of depth and gain, and Doppler application for vascular and perfusion assessment. My approach emphasised real-time dynamic evaluation and close clinical correlation to improve diagnostic accuracy. I communicated urgent findings directly to referring clinicians and advised on further imaging when cross-sectional evaluation was indicated.
  • In addition to ultrasound, I reported plain radiographs, CT, and MRI across a wide range of acute and elective indications. This strengthened my ability to correlate sonographic findings with cross-sectional imaging, enhancing diagnostic confidence and comprehensive patient care.
  • I also provided teaching to junior colleagues on the fundamentals of ultrasound technique and interpretation, promoting systematic scanning approaches and safe imaging practice.
