  • Adult in-patient and outpatient Adult Psychiatry (18 months)includes postings in three department units. Administration of Modified Electroconvulsive Therapy (MECT) was part of this training.
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (11 weeks)- includes two months of posting in the Child Guidance Clinic in Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, and four weeks of posting in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry department at NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
  • Neurology and Neuropsychiatry (2 months) – includes posting in the Neurology department of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. Work includes out-patient, and in-patient care, attending emergency calls related to neurology, interpretation of Electroencephalographs (EEG), and memory clinics.
  • Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (4 months) includes liaisons with departments such as medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, critical care units, oncology, and dermatology to manage psychiatric emergencies, psychosomatic disorders, and medical disorders complicated by psychological factors.
  • Clinical Psychology (1 month)- this includes posting in the department of clinical psychology at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, for training in psychological assessments, including personality assessments, neuropsychological assessments, projective testing, and IQ assessments, and training in psychological therapies such as BT, CBT, DBT, group therapies, and Social Skills Training.
  • Rehabilitation (5 months) includes posting in the rehabilitative centre Hombelaku, at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, with training in rehabilitative processes, social and cognitive skills assessments and retraining, occupational and vocational training, self-care training, and assertive community treatment in the form of home visits.
  • Community Psychiatry (5 months)- this includes attending various psychiatry camps, state homes for homeless women with mental illness, and Telepsychiatry units at primary health centres every week during the posting period in the rehabilitation centre.
  • Emergency Psychiatry- approximately 3 to 4 days per month throughout three years involving 24 hours of on-call duty to attend to psychiatric emergencies in Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
  • General Medicine (1 month)- involves posting in a general medicine unit at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. Work includes attending the outpatient department twice-weekly and in-patient care daily.
  • Elective posting (1 month)- in the Department of Medical Genetics at Kasturba Hospital with training in Genetic counselling for various genetic disorders. Work includes observing molecular biological techniques such as PCR, amniocentesis,CVS, and fetal autopsy.
  • Covid duties (4 weeks) under the Department of general medicine.
