Dr Alexandra Hardy Reflective Minds Ltd

Sheffield

Summary

I have worked in a range of health services and in both the NHS and the independent sector as a clinical lead. From 2008 I have specialised in working with children, young people and their families/carers with a wide range of mental health, developmental and health difficulties and young children with developmental and emotional issues. Especially in working with children, young people and families “on the edge of care”, in the Looked After system, and in the youth criminal justice system.

My assessments and interventions respect the family unit, but remain focused upon the child’s needs. I assess parents’ capacity to parent, their insight into their difficulties and motivation to change. Recognising that many parents have their own difficulties, and signpost them to services where appropriate. I have also worked with many vulnerable parents in terms of their capacity and mental health, treating trauma based presentations. Also with foster carers, kinship carers, adoptive parents, residential care staff, educational staff and other external agencies such as the Police etc.

I am experienced in producing comprehensive psychological assessments in both my clinical work, as a professional witness and as an expert witness in Family Court.

I offer a range of therapeutic interventions for mental health presentations, specialising in delivering trauma based therapies. I also, offer attachment based therapy for children/young people and their parents/carers.

For some years I have advised the health (CCG), and local authority commissioners about the most complex cases within services. I currently provide mental health expertise at a panel for complex children and young people that require additional funding from their Local Authority. I have also represented CAMHS on the Child Sexual Exploitation regional panel and the Harmful Sexual Behaviour multi-agency panel. Within many of my roles I have provided leadership, management, and supervision, developed operational frameworks and promoted change management in addition to delivering assessment and therapy.
