Work history

Technical operator

Sivers Semiconductors
High Blantyre, South Lanarkshire
04.2024 - Current

As a Technical Operator at Sivers Semiconductors, I ensure compliance with clean room and safety standards while maintaining reliable production flow and high-quality outputs. I monitor, troubleshoot, and perform basic maintenance on advanced equipment, conduct quality checks, and apply root cause analysis to support process optimisation and continuous improvement. Over the past 17 months, I have developed a wealth of knowledge across multiple tools and processes, including wafer thinning, polishing, dry and wet etch, and spin coating, and I am one of the few operators signed off on the Sputter 2 tool, with ongoing training on aligners, AFM, and BSA processes. I collaborate closely with engineers, mentor junior staff, and contribute to team KPIs, applying data analysis and programming skills (Python, MATLAB, SQL, Excel) to enhance operational efficiency. My background in physics (BSc, 2024) and prior experience in fast-paced, safety-critical environments have strengthened my technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and process awareness, all of which are directly transferable to a process engineering role.

Kitchen Assistant

RAD hotel group
Cumnock, East Ayrshire
06.2021 - 08.2025

As a Kitchen Assistant at RAD Hotel Group (2021–2024), I ensured safe and efficient kitchen operations by managing inventory, monitoring storage conditions, and maintaining hygiene and food safety standards. I operated equipment safely, prepared and served food, and identified potential hazards to prevent accidents. I also supported team workflow, trained junior staff, and reported equipment issues promptly, contributing to smooth daily service and consistent operational standards.

Leisure Centre assistant

Visions Leisure Centre
Cumnock, East Ayrshire
06.2018 - 04.2021

As a Leisure Centre Assistant at Visions Leisure Centre (2018-2021), I was responsible for maintaining high safety and compliance standards, carrying out equipment inspections, maintenance, and fault reporting, and supporting accessibility through the use of specialist equipment. I regularly monitored facility conditions, responded to incidents, and ensured smooth daily operations while delivering professional, customer-focused service in a team-oriented environment.

Supporting Statement

I am eager to apply for the Process Engineering position, bringing with me a strong technical foundation, hands-on operational experience, and a proven ability to work in safety-critical, highly regulated environments. Since 2024, I have gained valuable experience as a Operator, where I developed the ability to perform under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance. These experiences have given me a strong awareness of process control, quality assurance, and teamwork in fast-paced, high-stakes settings.

I graduated with a BSc(Hons.) in Physics in April 2024, where I developed a solid grounding in engineering principles, problem-solving, and technical analysis. My dissertation focused on data analysis and programming, requiring the use of Python, Bash, C and MATLAB to extract insights and model outcomes from large data sets. This strengthened my ability to apply coding to real-world challenges, approach problems with analytical precision, and deliver accurate, data-driven results, skills directly transferable to process engineering.

Over the past 17 months at Sivers, I have gained extensive hands-on experience in semiconductor manufacturing, including wafer thinning and polishing, dry and wet etch, and spin coating processes. I am one of only a few operators trained to run the Sputter 2 tool and have also began cross training on aligners, AFM, and the BSA process, and i am eager for more opportunities to further my training in these areas and others. These responsibilities have not only strengthened my technical expertise but also enhanced my ability to troubleshoot, optimise processes, and mentor junior operators, all skills that align closely with the requirements of a process engineering role.

Alongside my academic and professional experience, I have actively sought opportunities to build leadership, communication, and resilience. I achieved the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award in July 2025, following my Bronze and Silver awards, as well as the President's and Queen's Badges in the Boys' Brigade. These programmes developed my ability to lead, collaborate across diverse teams, and persevere through challenges. In addition, my voluntary work as a swimming assistant and training as a lifeguard demonstrate my ability to operate responsibly in safety critical environments, with a strong focus on compliance and risk management.

I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to transition into process engineering, where I can bring together my technical knowledge, data analysis expertise, and operational insight. I am confident that my combination of skills and experiences makes me a strong candidate, and I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the success and innovation of Sivers.
