With 2,039 beds as of 2023, it handles 180,000 annual admissions, including 10,000 childbirths. The outpatient department sees over 2,000 patients daily.Offering comprehensive healthcare, it provides various specialized services, including ICU care, psychiatric units, and counseling. The hospital also offers diagnostic like USS, CT, MRI, mammography, and X-rays. It features multiple operating theaters for emergency, general, gynecology, obstetrics, vascular, eye, and special surgeries. Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital plays a vital role in medical and nursing education, embodying a commitment to the well-being of the communities it serves.

Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children is the largest free of charge Pediatric Hospital in Sri Lanka. It serves as the national referral center for pediatric care for Sri Lanka.

Home to more than 25 specialties and more than 40 units, this hospital has more than 1016 in wards beds and it treats children below 14 years of age from all over the country. It has all supportive services required to provide quality patient care. With annual Admissions of 84299, total OPD visits 647138, LRH indeed does an unsung service to the nation. Also being the largest specialized children’s hospital in Sri Lanka indirectly plays a vital role in nurturing the future of Sri Lanka, hence doing a great service to the whole nation as well as foreign children and refugees who come to Sri Lanka. It is responsible for undergraduate and most of the post graduate medical and surgical paediatric training, which is provided by all the units of the hospital.


Duties and Responsibilities


o History taking and examination of Paediatric patients including neonates.

o Paediatric resuscitation

o Cannulation and drawing blood for investigations from all paediatric age groups

o Carrying out developmental assessments.

o Establishing and monitoring of blood transfusions.

o Paediatric sedation for radiological investigations and procedures.

o Lumbar puncture.

o Attending and management of paediatric emergencies
