  • Daily Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor critically ill patients, including checking vital signs, assessing neurological status, fluid balance, and other clinical parameters.
  • Treatment and Intervention: Administer medications, fluids, and other treatments as prescribed. This include managing complex infusions, adjusting ventilator settings, and titrating inotropes or vasopressors.
  • Invasive Procedures: Perform and assist with procedures such as central line insertion, arterial blood gas sampling, chest drain insertion, and intubation, under the supervision of senior doctors.
  • Care Plan Implementation: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to implement care plans, which include nursing care, physiotherapy, and nutritional support. Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the care plan are carried out effectively.
  • Emergency Response: Quickly assess and manage deteriorating patients. You may need to initiate resuscitation or other emergency interventions, with support from the senior ICU team.
  • Patient and Family Communication: Communicate with patients' families, providing updates on their condition, explaining treatment plans, and offering support during what is often a very difficult time.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care. Effective communication and teamwork are vital in the ICU setting.
  • Accurate Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of patient care, including clinical notes, treatment changes, and procedural outcomes.
  • Learning from Senior Doctors: Observing and participating in advanced procedures, attending teaching rounds, and asking questions to deepen your understanding of critical care.
  • Attending Teaching Sessions: Participate in formal teaching sessions, which may include lectures, case discussions, and morbidity and mortality meetings.
  • Case-Based Learning: Engage in case-based learning by reviewing complex cases, discussing management decisions, and understanding the rationale behind different treatment approaches.
