40 Years of experience
I manage the Occupational Health service at Richmond and Wandsworth Council and additional schools buying into our service, supporting over 7000 staff in total. My staff include 3 Occupational Health Practitioners, an occupational Health physician on a session basis and 2 administrators.
I believe in the quality of the service we provide to ensure that staff referred to OH feel well supported with good advice and signposting and that managers are given sufficient advice to be able to support the individual appropriately and take management action if required.
My remit is wide including working closely with various stakeholders, everyday management of team members, complex case work, facilitating case conferences, budget management, policy writing and other OH development work
My role also includes delivery of health and wellbeing initiatives including regular workshops with MIND to raise awareness of mental health and supporting a network of Mental Health First Aiders. I also oversee a comprehensive intranet site with information on all aspects of health and wellbeing for staff to access to allow self management of health problems and advice on improving lifestyle choices.
I set up the Occupational Health service at Kingston University offering a comprehensive range of services including case work to support ill health and sickness absence, pre-employment health screening, health surveillance, ergonomic assessments, lifestyle health checks, health promotion and training including stress management, pre-retirement and first-aid.
I worked alone proving a range of Occupational Health services including case work in relation to sickness absence and ill-health, health screening, first aid, advice re travel vaccines and appropriate screening after travel in relation to food hygiene standards. I developed a food hygiene training package and improved staff motivation through the introduction of task rotation.
