Strong minded, Ambitious individual with a drive to learn new things. Looking for a new opportunity in the engineering field. The Kier Level 3 apprenticeship route is perfect for me as it allows me to get my foot in the door at kier whilst learning skills on the job to eventually join the level 6 programme. My qualifications in achieving top 5 in the country for electrical installation at college demonstrate my determination towards educating myself and my strive to achieve the best in everything I do. During my education for Electrical Installation; I studied electrical science and mathematics, with theory and application. During This time I learned to plan installations using formulas which will help me in my engineering career by gathering an understanding on how certain components work and the reasoning behind them. Additionally, I installed them by hand with accuracy, This will be useful when adapting to equipment use in the engineering space such as total stations. Furthermore, This has taught me to think outside the box and go against the expectation in order to achieve the desired result oftentimes under budget. The application portions of my examinations have helped prepare me for my duties on site in addition to making me comfortable delivering high quality results within time parameters. Alongside this, I was taught to analyse and critique installations with problems written into them, tasked with fixing the problem alongside improving it with my own design features, teaching me critical analysation and problem solving skills. During my planning stage for my installations; I had a brief overlook on the AutoCAD application, allowing me to get an insight of what civil engineers do on a daily basis. During my time at college, I have gained the confidence to complete level 3 work to a high standard whilst dealing with time constraints and budgets, gaining time management and budgeting skills in the process. Outside of education, I coach Thai boxing multiple times a week, this has taught me to work in a team environment by leading my clientele towards success in their personal goals. Determination, resilience and perseverance are integral parts of being a strong competitor in the Thai Boxing sport. These 3 attributes have helped me to become a more well-rounded person and will show in the engineering workplace during difficult or stressful situations. In my spare time I enjoy reading books particularly of the critical thinking genre, the knowledge I have gained from these books will allow me to look at certain scenarios in the engineering space and see them in a different light, offering a unique solution to the problem. The skills acquired during my electrical project design will transfer to planning and designing projects for rail systems, during my projects I was collaborative with people in my class to help them achieve their desired outcome once I had completed my own work; working in a swift and efficient manner to put my ideas forward whilst also allowing others' creativity to flow. Alongside both design and installation modules, I also completed a health and safety course for working safely and ethically on site, learning to work to health and safety regulation and law which is crucial when working in such dangerous environments. I am driven by personal development in all aspects of my life, from an early age I've always wanted to be the best at what I did whether it was sports or school work, the engineering space is an new challenge for me to conquer; having the necessary support from an apprenticeship by being able to study and work hands on will allow me to grow and develop into getting my degree. Since my youth, I have always taken a strong interest in technology, from learning basic software development skills at an early age to eventually running a business over lockdown where I would build, optimise and then sell personalised computers on third party platforms such as eBay. My technical ability around software and technology alongside my natural inquisitiveness to learn new skills is something I believe will make me a good fit for the role. My prior experience with computer systems will help me as a civil engineer as learning to use systems such as AutoCAD in greater depth as the application and those similar wont be alien to me. The opportunity to advance my technical abilities and overall knowledge on subjects like mathematics and having the opportunity to use them with the kier group towards something meaningful in the real world is the reason I've decided to pursue the apprenticeship route over solely studying the subject at a university.
Building new fighters from the ground up as well as keeping experienced fighters sharp by offering 1-1 coaching sessions including pad work in addition to strength and conditioning programmes, ensuring all my clientele are keeping fit by creating a healthy relationship built around discipline and hard work. This has taught me to be patient due to the varying ages of clientele as well as organisation skills by having to plan routines to fit the client's needs. Working as a 1-1 coach has also gave me greater determination as I have to work with clients who oftentimes aren't to the same ability as myself.
During my time working at EE, I was apart of an additional lines department tasked with adding more value to customers accounts, this came with a number of adversaries which I would have to overcome with objection handling and on the spot problem solving to find an efficient solution for both customer and employee in order to maximise customer satisfaction whilst also benefiting the company. Speaking sometimes up to 150 different people a day, I would have to change my approach with every call allowing me to test out different communication styles to personalise them to the customer whilst still maintaining a high level of professionalism. Coaching Thai boxing with interchanging session patterns at the same time as working at EE allowed me to gain greater time management and organisation skills as I would have to communicate with clients as to when their session is and manage transport times in order to get there punctually as well as ensuring I was always on time for my shifts. This increased my resilience and taught me how to deal with pressure alongside greatly benefiting my ability to communicate in a clear and precise manner, this will allow me to work in a more clear frame during difficult projects and problems that will occur in all aspects of my role as a civil engineer whilst also being able to communicate with colleagues if needed to come to a solution together.
Working twice a week as an electrician's mate alongside my college work, learning installation techniques primarily working on the first fix studying how to install different components such as sockets, wiring and breakers safely and accurately. this gave me a good idea of site duties in addition to health and safety on site which will help me as an engineer as I have previous knowledge of health and safety regulation and procedure as well as the experience and understanding of importance of working accurately.
