I had a break in career, as I had two children, one with additional needs.
During this time, apart from raising my family, I also carried out some voluntary work in local schools.
I have experiance working in a variety of settings, and I have learnt to be adaptable I have a hard-working attitude, and I always try to work to the best of my ability I have worked with children in a variety of school settings , from pupil referral units to mainstream schools My placements for my PGCE were varied My first placement was in an inner city academy in Tottenham, North London The school was in a deprived area and at the time was just coming out of special measures I enjoyed my placement; it was a challenging environment, but the children were amazing There was a high percentage of children with EAL, and I had to adopt strategies to engage the children in lessons
My second placement was in Ealing, West London The school was named as an outstanding school by ofsted and was also a beacon school The school was very different from my first placement, but it had its own challenges There was a wide gap in attainment, and there was a need to improve the provision for gifted and talented students
During my time teaching at the PRU, I developed my teaching skills very quickly The students had varying needs, and most had either undiagnosed conditions or were on the SEND register I had to deploy a variety of teaching methods to keep the students engaged in learning
I had to quickly build positive relationships with the students I used positive reinforcements and positive phone calls to parents and carers, and I held lunch and break time clubs I would often have lunch with the kids, chatting about their interests to build trust and mutual respect
I have recently completed my Level 3 teaching assistant qualification In doing so I have reignited my love of learning The course was very intense with strict deadlines, with assignments having to reach A-level standards I found this a challenge to begin with, as I have been out of education for 15 years Through the course I have deepened my knowledge of child development I have understood the importance of collaborative working with multi-agency teams I understand how to engage with parents in decisions regarding their child This is in compliance with the SEND code of practice 2015
I have developed excellent skills in the management of my time and workload I can discuss ideas in a group setting, and I have built up my ICT skills
In my spare time I enjoy open water swimming. Crocheting, reading, and going on long walks with my dog.
I am passionate about music and often go to live concerts with my two children. I travel down to london often and enjoy the culture and art galleries that London has to offer.
