DAYTON MUNGAI

Glasgow

Summary

I am a motivated, creative, and hardworking individual and who is in his first year of Drama School. During my time I completed The Duke of Edinburgh award with a two-day expedition. Outside acting I play basketball with my local team and have a high interest in photography and music. These activities require a lot of time but throughout my first term of Drama school I've learnt how to balance them equally and maintaining high performance in each of them. I am easy going, ready to work with new people and always ready for a challenge.

Team member/ kitchen

Tortilla
Glasgow, UK
09.2023 - 12.2023
  • The job I am currently at is an amalgamation of the jobs I've had previously.
  • What I've learnt to a high extent on this job is how to work as a team in a hectic environment.
  • Due to the shop space being very small but us having many customers, teamwork and communication becomes very vital.
  • A good example of this is if I'm working on the line on a busy day.
  • "It's basically a Mexican subway, I'll tell you what we have, and you tell me what you want" The first thing I tell a new customer.
  • Letting another team member that they should stay on the cold side of the line (Salad, sauces, extras) is enough communication to get through customers.
  • As I stay on the hot section (Rice, meats, beans, extras) when things run out, I'll get them to the kitchen as soon as I can to serve customers.
  • When I have free time, I'll go help wash.
  • Knowing when to get supplies for the line so they don't pile up is also vital.
  • Asking kitchen to make some extra beans or beef is essential so when customers come, we are full on stock.

Floor staff

Wetherspoons Crystal Palace
Glasgow
11.2022 - 04.2023
  • Carrying my skills from my first job and life helped me with this job.
  • The essential Skills of working within a new team while maintaining good communication stayed with me.
  • A normal day at Wetherspoons would consist of me bringing out orders to customers, making sure they are satisfied with everything they have; I would make sure the customers are satisfied with their meals and every so often ask if they need anything else, collecting plates and glasses and cleaning tables.
  • With working in Rockies, I kept up the skill of staying composed and poised when dealing with difficult customers and during busy shifts.
  • Some of these customers would be drunk and I managed to find a way to communicate with them in non-rude manner, so they are satisfied with everything they felt like they needed.
  • Frequently I would have to complete up to date training and certain protocols to make sure I am up to date with certain foods etc.
  • Challenges I have overcome while working here consist of what it's like on a busy shift if the kitchen messes up an order or if a customer isn't satisfied with their food.
  • Critical thinking is something that I picked up while scenarios like these played out, when someone who is working on the floor miscommunicates with me about sending out an order and the customer has been there for a while, I can instantly know how to make sure one table is satisfied while the other orders are being taken out at a good pace.
  • Deciding whether I was in a good position to stop the other orders and concentrate on the one delayed put my critical thinking and problem-solving skills to use.

Front counter/Drive through

KFC
Glasgow
06.2023 - 09.2023
  • A normal day at KFC will include starting a shift as early as 10am (Serving starts at 10:30am).
  • I would arrive and make sure everything is cleaned from the closing shift of the previous night.
  • I would stock up on drinks, boxes, bags, make sure the bins are emptied and overall and easier way for everyone to get along with their shift.
  • Throughout the day I would serve customers as fast and as best as I could making sure everyone got what they ordered.
  • After this I would pack what they have just ordered with people in the kitchen dealing with the food.
  • Occasionally when the store is at its peak times and is very busy, I will come round and help make food for front counter.
  • Essential skills that I take on this job is good communication making sure what has been sent from kitchen is what has been ordered by our customers.
  • Hygiene which is an essential, although I am working at a fast pace, I make sure everything I am working with/on is clean, washing my hands regularly and critical thinking, due to KFC being usually fast paced with loads of customers, staying calm and knowing when to help other stations in the store is vital with them knowing when and why I am doing what I'm doing.
