Clinical Rotations

  • Paediatrics - Integrated into the clinical environment joining on ward rounds and clinics, taking focused patient histories and examining, helping to clerk new patients.
  • General Practice - Ran clinics a seeing a wide variety of patients, documented and discussed management plans with GP.
  • Psychiatry - Joined MDT meetings, assisted during home visits, took focused mental health histories contributing to patient assessments.
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology - Practiced core clinical competencies (venipuncture, cannulation, catheterisation) in addition to specific obstetric and gynaecological examinations. Took histories from patients with a variety of presentations, assisted in vaginal and caesarean births and saw patients in both on the wards and in an acute setting.
  • Geriatrics - Assisted on ward rounds, planning management and discharge and was present when breaking bad news and counselling patients on important decisions.
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery - Joined clinics and ward rounds, practiced neurological examinations. Was able to scrub into and assist with a tumour resection.
  • Orthopaedics - Was able to scrub into and assist in a number of surgeries both elective and trauma cases. Shadowed on-call doctors and assisted with acute trauma management in emergency. Assisted with setting up a quality improvement project to help improve outcomes of nerve root injections for radiculopathy. Assisted by seeing patients in clinics
