  • Working in an Azure environment
  • Responsible for the entire environment and supporting scientists by provisioning servers for their day to day work
  • Many of the environments make use of Docker containers using Kubernetes for orchestration
  • I was also tasked with introducing automation, I decided on Ansible for application configuration and deployment and Terraform for infrastructure provisioning

  • Neos is a hosting company mainly dealing within the travel industry and is located in Munich
  • As part of the Linux team my duties include day-to-day activities such as working on problem and change tickets, regular patching activities, regular backup management and building new environments
  • All of our environments were deployed using Vmware ESX and later on AWS
  • We also migrated a large BI platform to AWS
  • Jenkins was used for CI/CD Pipelines
  • I have been involved in several projects where I was responsible for the setup of new environments for our customers, some of which are large complex high availability environments
  • Of these, some that contain sensitive customer data and must follow PCI DSS regulations and are regularly audited

  • The main technologies we work with are Red Hat, CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu distributions, servers range from web servers (Apache and nginx), application servers (WebLogic, tomcat), database servers (Oracle, MongoDB) also working on a large project which utilizes a lot of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Kafka, Spark etc

  • I worked in the NST Design and Architecture team as the subject matter expert for databases and middleware
  • The project was responsible for transforming around 4000 servers from the legacy Shell environment to T-Systems DCS
  • My main responsibility was ensuring compliance for all database and middleware transformations to DCS standards, these included setting guidelines for software life-cycle compliancy, enforcing security framework and making sure that new installs could be supported by our operational department
  • All database migrations were for Oracle and MS-SQL with the middleware components included Apache, IIS, JBOSS amongst others
  • I was also the focal point for our DBA team in India for escalations regarding migrations and mentored them when they were attempting new tasks or complex troubleshooting

  • I joined the wholesale system support team primarily to work as an Oracle DBA and secondly to be the primary team member for clustering technologies
  • This included Oracle RAC, Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster, Red Hat Cluster
  • I also managed the backups (EMC Networker) and was the primary Unix admin for several applications that are supported by the team
  • I also planned a large RAC installation from the top down (hardware, software, capacity etc), Creating dataguard standby databases for a few applications and troubleshooting a troublesome red hat cluster
  • I was also seconded onto a team that was charged with the task of making sure all Oracle, MySql and MS-Sql were on a supportable software version, through either migration, patching or retirement
  • I was also part of the team responsible for virtualization of existing platforms

  • For KPN I work in the business outsourcing department, this entailed support of the production, test and development
  • Our main task was the day to day administration of the Oracle databases
  • They use 10g RAC running on Solaris 10 (x86)
  • Outside of the usual activities I am planning and implementing many new features that I feel are missing
  • Including RMAN, proper backup solution (Networker), Jump start server, monitoring (nagios) and performance tuning of the production database
  • The role includes installing and supporting the hardware, SAN and fibre channel switches
  • I am currently working on increasing the storage for future growth and putting forward a proposal to move to ASM

  • My role within T-Mobile was to support the billing test teams
  • I was part of a multidisciplinary team and my function was to provide database and Unix support but also included a small amount of application support and billing
  • My job was to set up the environment from a Unix perspective and restore a copy of the production database and re-configure it to reflect the test environment
  • Then to apply any changes before they go into production, this includes performance monitoring and tuning
  • Also support the test team with any of their problems
