In thirty years of Policing I have worked in many different roles, and many different location.
I have worked in a City, large towns, along with smaller towns and semi rural locations. These different locations bring with them different needs from Policing, and a requirement for different Policing styles, which I believe I have gained during in my carer
I have had a number of different roles, starting as a front line Response Constable, during which I qualified as a Tutor Constable and trained a number of Student Officers. I went on to qualify as a Detective Constable, obtaining more detailed training in both witness and suspect interviews, and managing more complex investigations. I then became a Drug Liaison Officer and had training as a Drug Expert which involved providing Expert Evidence in Crown Court in relation to drug supply cases. There was a requirement for advanced training in disclosure and CPIA for this role.
I then gained promotion to Sergeant and worked as both a Response Sergeant and Beat Sergeant. In the Response Sergeant role I was responsible for managing a team of twelve Constables, monitoring their workloads and providing advice and guidance on investigations and case files, along with monitoring live incidents in a daily basis, and ensuring my team of Constables were dealing with the incidents appropriately. As a Beat Sergeant I was responsible for a number of local Beat Constables and Community Support Officers. We worked with partner agencies and local residents in order to address the issues facing the local community.
In 2021 I was promoted to Inspector and took on the role of Response Inspector. I managed a team of four Sergeants and thirty six Constables across a number of different towns and communities. I was responsible on a day to day basis for monitoring incidents being reported and identifying threat risk and harm within those incidents. I then managed that threat risk and harm to ensure it was dealt with correctly, and in a timely manner in order to achieve the best outcome for all involved. I would be heavily involved in any Critical or Major Incident, providing advice and guidance on a policing perspective to partner agencies.
On a more long term basis I had oversight of all my teams workloads, and ensured investigations were managed correctly and timely. I also managed the welfare and development of the Sergeants through regular one to one conversations, and made sure the Sergeants were doing the same with the Constables
