Manufacturing Engineer

  • SAS International manufactures and supplies building materials such as wooden doors, flushed and single glazed doors, screens, partitioning, access panels as well as bespoke projects.
  • As a manufacturing engineer, day-to-day tasks are creating bespoke customer drawings from order specifications, such as implementing different ironmongery via samples. Drawing them up and trialling machining via AutoCAD and Elucad to ensure they are ready for manufacturing.
  • But can also vary from creating and updating SOPs (Standard Operational Procedure), implementing quality controls, doing risk assessments, cycle time analysis, layout improvements, packaging specifications, BOM updates, implementing safety stock along with purchasing, creating inspection sheets, improving efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • As well as calling meetings with other departments to improve and implement changes that need to be done for current products and NPI.
  • Achievements to date are implementing a complete process on a new flushed and single glazed door range to enable a smooth and efficient operation. Reducing costs in the process and saving £20,000 annually on packaging. Also obtaining cost reductions of pallets, partitioning packaging and door wrap packaging.

  • John Scott Works is a company that designs and manufactures mezzanine floors.
  • It was my role within the company as a project engineer to exactly match a customer's requirements within the design process, using site surveys carried out by the project managers who gather detailed measurements, assess the site and any exact requirements
  • Using HiCAD software, I produced an exact 3D model of the finished floor with all the data required for manufacturing and installation such as a static report and BOM.
  • Accomplishments within my role were performing to strict deadlines, always getting the drawings out accurately and on time for the customer.

Process Engineer

  • Whilst working at Denso a big accomplishment was implementing a new ECM production line, where day-to-day activities varied from maintaining and resolving any issues that occur on the line.
  • Managing and training a team of 8 operatives, developing SOPs, process flow charts, PFMEA, process control plans and process control instructions. Whilst improving both performance and efficiency via line balancing.
  • I achieved this by reducing the cycle time of the blower build from 120seconds to 100seconds, as well as closing out over 120 continuous improvement items since the line was first introduced.

  • Adient make seats for the automotive industry which is a COMAH site.
  • A big accomplishment of mine was working my way up in the company adapting and excelling at numerous roles, from tank farm operative, process technician, tool setter and also being selected to be apart of the high performance team.
  • Throughout my tenure various roles included parameter checks, calibrating the poly and isocyanate streams, offloading chemical tankers, updating run charts maintaining good house keeping, loading programs to the Fanuc robots, trouble shooting any issues, conducting quality and first off audits, mould changes, safety checks, putting moulds on and off the tracks via the forklift, database logging, TPM on all offline carriers, track call outs, fixing air leaks, auto vent issues, water leaks and damaged tools, reducing scrap,
  • As part of the High-Performance Team I was a star point for total quality and maintained an 85% target on the vision system and 2% scrap target as well as reducing insert scrap costs by 65%.
