After an enjoyable couple of years with Logic, I decided to join Marlowe Fire & Security as a Service/Reactive Engineer. I originally started the role in York before relocating to Scotland to be closer to family.

  • Working across Fire Alarms, Intruder Alarms, Access Control, IP and Analogue CCTV systems, and Emergency Lighting.
  • Part of the call-out rota, responding to customer faults and reactive issues
  • Completed a range of industry courses and in-house training through the Marlowe Academy
  • Worked on sites including The Co-operative Group, Aldi, Unite Students, Travelodge, Premier Inn, Care UK, FirstPort and Boots UK
  • Became one of the main engineers for the Aldi contract in Scotland, specialising in IP camera systems
  • Started taking on more responsibility with the aim of progressing into a Senior/Lead Engineer role

After spending a year with Network Rail and gaining experience in a different industry, I decided to return to the Fire and Security sector, which I thoroughly enjoyed working in.

To help move back into the industry, I completed two Level 3 Practical Courses with Tavcom Training in Intruder Alarms and Fire Alarms before joining Logic Fire & Security and later FSG for a 3-month period in Gibraltar.

  • I completed 2 courses on my own accord with TAVCOM (Practical intruder and fire alarms level 3 course) and started working in the industry again.

  • I decided to take the opportunity to start working for Network rail, one of the largest companies in the UK. I completed my first year of a 3-year apprenticeship as a Signalling Engineer, where I learned many skills, such as:
  • Installing new signalling systems, carrying out maintenance checks, measuring, and recording equipment test readings
  • Upgrade radio and electronic communications networks
  • Find and fix equipment faults on-site.
  • Learn how to interpret different diagrams such as schematics and how to use the information.
  • Work as a team under pressure to complete tasks on a very tight schedule.
  • Learning how to use a range of tools for the job.
  • Working on the railway, safety is essential to the job, completed a PTS course (Personal Track Safety)
  • Completed all my academic work on time, with most graded distinctions.

This was to ensure we kept a smooth and efficient working environment, and we could fulfill the best training that was possible to the recruits.
