A. H3 Africa Consortium - Chronic Kidney Disease Research Lab and SPOT-BIO.

  • Extracted DNA from blood samples of 8000+ patients with Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD), childhood nephrotic syndrome, and preeclampsia.
  • Quantified DNA with Qubit and Nanodrop Fluorometers.
  • Designed suitable primers using Primer-BLAST and UCSC In Silico PCR.
  • Preliminary results showed that among Ghanaians and Nigerians, 28% carry high-risk APOLI variants for kidney disease and are at 29% higher odds of CKD than those that are low-risk carriers.


C. Ahodwo Sickle Cell Project - Sickle Cell Foundation Ghana

  • Analyzed 200 blood and serum samples from sickle cell patients weekly for full blood count, kidney function tests, liver function tests and electrolyte levels.
  • Logged test results via the SchuyLab laboratory information system to provide access to partner physicians.
  • Calibrated and troubleshot Selectra Pro M, SYSMEX XN1000 and SYSMEX KX-21N devices using standard calibrators (ELICAL 2) and multi-parametric controls before running patient samples.
  • Passed the College of American Pathologist external quality control tests on using hematology and chemistry analyzers.


C. Clinical Pathology Department

  • Conducted literature review to support theses on Sickle cell disease and preeclampsia, inborn errors of metabolism, and cryoprotectants for cancer cells.
  • Led and participated in bi-weekly Journal Club presentations.
