My job role as a lab/Qa Tech was responsible for testing incoming raw materials. We use a large number of raw materials but the main ones I tested were Coal, Clay and Silica sand. These are delivered to our site in tankers between 25and 30 tonnes. We therefore require a small representative sample of the incoming load. This is normally a small bag of about 400 grams. This is subject of my testing to confirm its quality,
I am also responsible for the daily testing of Eurac Disc Greensand for physical and mechanical properties . I then check these again Eurac specification to check for any inconsistency. If there are, I inform my supervisor and we decide Whether the issue just needs to be monitored , or if it requires us to make any changes to bring them back within limits. the decision is normally determined by the length of time the results have been below limits and how far beneath the specification it is.
I had to train apprentices on how to do the sand testing and explain each test and what it is for. And then supervise them after training was completed,
I all so did the material orders for three departments Disa Core shop and lab every week.
Which consisted of working out how much material we would need for the week ahead which was Clay,Coal silica sand and for over departments I had to order Silica Sand different grade Minsand, Core coating and also the resins and the aimme. Included in my role was to do Metallography which I have completed a practical skills training and contemporary theory course . This course in materialographic specimen preparation includes being able to do the theory as well as the practical side of cutting samples, hot and cold mounting, manual and semi-automatic preparation as well as being able to select the correct preparation methods needed to complete the task at hand I used a microscope to analyse the structure of the sample and then write a basic report.
