During primary school I distinctly remember my classmates writing down what they wanted to be on a piece of paper (astronauts, firefighter, footballer) and everyone not understanding why I wrote film maker on mine. My love for filming and telling stories has been within me for as long as I can remember. I am constantly wanting to learn and update my knowledge on the medium as well as my skills within it. One thing I have said to my employers is "even if I wasn't being paid for it, I would continue to do it personally". I hope this demonstrates my passion to document real things allowing them to be viewed and connect with people. My passions for connecting with people don't stop there. Having played in bands and having professional musicians as friends has made me view music in a healing and communicative way as well. I also have friends within the restaurant industry which inspires the way I see food, how I cook and how food can be used as a communicative tool.
I think a lot of people within certain generations can view social media as something for younger people or slightly pointless, but I have always tried to keep up with what's popular and trending on different social media platforms. Again, not to repeat myself too much but it allows a dialogue and understanding of different cultures, whether that be generational or other.
I love getting stuck into projects by myself which is something I have done for years, but as time has gone by I have realised the best thing is having people to collaborate with. Using different arts/mediums to understand each other is incredibly useful, which is why I think film that combines all types of arts is detrimental to us.
Working with corporate clients like Poundland, Spar, Hays Travel and Midcounties COOP has allowed me to develop my professional communication skills and my understanding of what a client wants if their video knowledge happens to be simple.
Working with smaller, local companies has required a more creative and direct approach, instilling the clients trust in me to deliver a suitable outcome.
Hughes Productions being a prominent and longstanding production company within the events sector means it has also been vital for me to operate live cameras at conferences, film and edit quick turnaround highlight videos for awards shows, and help my fellow crew where needed on site.
Upon joining the company I have taken charge and developed a consistent social content stream for the business on TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn.
During my time here we have had 3 people on work experience that I have lead and taught standard practices as well as personal innovative skills.
While working at places like Toolstation and British Garden Centres I have used my free time to produce music videos and live sessions for local musicians. I am also currently in the process of completing a long form documentary about a fine dining restaurant and wine bar called Gwen in the town of Machynlleth.
