I am a trained and licensed radiographer registered with Health and Care Profession Council of UK(HCPC). I have 0ver 12 years of experience in delivering quality and effective healthcare to patients through diagnosis . In the course of my work, I have had over a 100 students, newly qualified staffs and interns go through my trainings and teaching.
I have also been responsible for mentoring at least 10 interns who I was responsible for ensuring they learn the right techniques and protocols needed for the Job. it was also part of my duty to assess their performances and grades whilst providing the necessary emotional support, corrections and steps they need for their career growth. For example, as a chief radiographer at national orthopaedic hospital I noticed one of my interns was always lacking behind in her work, was lackadaisical about her job. I had to have a talk with her in private and discovered she had issues at home so it affected her efficiency, as her tutor and mentor I provide her with support she needed to over come her issues at home and I also took out time to go over some private trainings with her so she could catch up with her mates. she picked up really fast and was able to finish her internship training with her mates. Situations like this and being able to make a positive change in lives are one of my favourite parts of being a tutor. I can proudly say those that pass through me have grown into quality and refined radiographers who can confidently do the work and deliver par excellence. I can work efficiently under tough and pressured situations. This ability is as a result of my resilience and strengths; both internally and externally and this helps me to adapt easily to any challenge. I am empathetic and compassionate. Also, communicating with both my students and my patients comes very naturally to me as I am a good listener with high concentration levels. I have a very practical approach to teaching and I find the simplest way to explain procedures so it is very easy for my students to understand the concept possess advanced clinical and technical skills to carry out all various types of Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging including but not limited to Cone Beam CT and Sialography.and i am able to assist in all patient care needs within the Dental Radiology Department when required.i have good knowledge of HASAW Act, COSHH, Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017, Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure Regulations) 17 and Fire Regulations and its implementation understand the importance of documentation and ensuring the maintenance of accurate patient demographics, recording and recall of images and procedures in accordance with departmental standards. With my experience in dental radiology, i am able to aid dental diagnoses by directing dental colleagues to relevant supplementary radiological views manoeuvre and position dental x-ray equipment to demonstrate varying patient Dental and Maxillofacial anatomy and disease all geared towards effective patient care. I have continuously improved myself by undergoing various training and certification programs to boost my career such as; image interpretation in dental and maxiofacial radiography , I was recently part of the clinical audit seminar held at the hospital . I have had Postgraduate certificate training on computed tomography, postgraduate diploma on mammography, postgraduate diploma on Ultrasound, Seminars on PACS/RIS software application and managerial skills, Current radiography techniques and equipment manipulation. In my current role as a senior radiographer, I have had experiences with students who are so scared of attempting an examination but I was able to support and guide them through the whole process and they ended up doing really well and obtaining a good diagnostic image. this really helps them to gain confidence in themselves. Managerially, i possess certain skills which I had employed in my time as the chief radiographer and member of the departmental clinical audit team in my hospital previous job role. I delegate duties for junior radiographers and interns, I draw up weekly/monthly rota and ensure exact rotation is followed in order to ensure smooth work flow. I create topics for webinars, seminars and research and I ensure the interns and students carry out an extensive research and the topics are well covered. I also grade and assess their work and provide corrections and support where needed, I write reports on number of patients attended and the sizes of film used where necessary. I also mediate between patients and staff whenever there is an issue. For instance there was this particular day a patient refused to be attended to by the current staff on ground. The patient was extremely agitated with the staff and had caused a scene at my unit. I was called in to settle the situation. During the course of mediation, I discovered that the issue was as a result of a breech in communication between them. The staff had not properly explained the procedure to the patient and the patient refused to follow instructions blindly. I asked the staff to do the needful and seek proper consent before attending to her. After that was done correctly, the patient became calm and was willing to carry on with the examination. The Xray examination was carried out successfully and the patient left happily. Working as a senior radiographer in the dental radiology unit of Guys and St Thomas' NHS trust , working closely and observing other senior members of staff has given me a better understanding of the requirements and needs of the job role and i believe if given a chance, i would give nothing but my utmost best.
My key strengths include; ability to work amidst challenges, ability to encourage and bring out the best in people. I am highly resourceful, motivated and resilient.
