Experienced Construction Manager with a strong background in rail infrastructure, dedicated, honest, ambitions and always thinking outside the box to find alternative ways to deliver projects more efficiently.
In my current role as Construction Manager, I am responsible for overseeing the installation of all civil assets within the Kingmoor Re-signalling Project footprint. This includes being involved with the entire process from design reviews (DDR - Detailed Design Reviews, IDR - Interdisciplinary Reviews, and IDC - Interdisciplinary Design Checks) to the development and implementation of the Inspection Test Plan (ITP), and finally, the handover of assets to the maintainer in line with AMP016 (Asset Management Plan) requirements.
A key part of my responsibilities is liaising with local maintainers, landowners, and third-party stakeholders to ensure that works commence efficiently and with minimal disruption.
I also undertake continuous quality assurance checks throughout the project life cycle, reporting any defects or issues through the Network Rail CMO (Construction Management Observation) process to maintain compliance and address any actions or concerns promptly.
Throughout my tenure in this role, I have overseen several major contracts, including the Cumbrian Coast Signal Renewals, which involved the replacement of multiple life-expired semaphore signals in challenging environments.
Additionally, I have managed the WCML Tranche 5A Structure Renewals, which included the renewal of life-expired straight signal posts, complex gantry installations, and additional banking stabilization works.
As a Site Manager for VolkerRail, I was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the site operations, ensuring full compliance with safety, quality, and environmental (SQE) standards through rigorous audits and checks, managing subcontractors to enable the renewal of old degrading signal structures from straight posts to complex portal gantry works, and producing detailed daily reports which were highly commended by the client and internal seniors.
I received multiple AIM awards for my implementation of a site access app designed by myself.
I was also seconded to the client to plan and undertake survey activities on their behalf, demonstrating trust in my technical expertise and professionalism within the rail industry.
Senior civil's supervisor responsible for the full life cycle of civil engineering projects such as full level crossing renewals, REB bases (Relocatable equipment building), DNO (Distribution network operator) bases, over-bridge cable containment from initial site surveys to final handover to the client.
Tasks included detailed implementation plans, coordinate materials and plant orders, and manage the installation of all aspects of civil's works including ITP process.
My role also includes carrying out internal site audits, liaising directly with clients, attending planning and progress meetings, and ensuring safety through toolbox talks and safety briefs.
I began my career on the tools, learning my trade from the ground up. Through dedication and hands-on experience, I progressed to a Team Leader position before quickly advancing into a Supervisor role. During this time, I was involved in major re-signalling schemes across the UK, including high-profile projects in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. These roles gave me a solid foundation in both technical and leadership skills, allowing me to contribute effectively to complex, large-scale rail infrastructure works.
Working primarily within private sidings, I was involved in the renewal of Switches & Crossings (S&C), turnouts, and plain line track. During this time, I gained key competencies in operating a range of plant machinery, including 360 excavators, forward tipping dumpers, and ride-on rollers.
My hands-on experience and growing technical knowledge enabled me to progress into a Ganger role, where I began taking on more responsibility and leadership on site.
