I was offered a co-chair role in a large scale partnership board focusing on improving the services and support to people living with neurological conditions after being a member of the board for 1 year. This led to me being a guest speaker at 2 SEND schools, being invited to be a member of a brand new strategic co-production board and being invited to be a co-optee member of a health and adult social services scrutiny panel with councillors for the borough and directors of social care.
I have been volunteering with Ealing Council’s Autism Partnership Board since 2021. The purpose of the Board is to provide better services and support to people living with autism by raising awareness for existing services and support, helping to foster positive relationships between the Council and services and charities, highlighting any gaps in support available, help to make these services as user friendly as possible and to create a roadmap towards our end goals. I have been co-chairing this board since 2022; taking on a leadership role where my responsibilities include helping to create the agenda for each meeting, ensure that all tasks allocated to other board members are being completed by the deadline and keeping track of progress, help to lead all of the meetings along with my co-chair, ensure all paperwork provided for each meeting is up to date and accurate, help to find representatives for various non-profit organizations, charities and mental health services to speak at different meetings and to help to coach newer members to reach their potential. During my tenure leading this Board, we have had the honour of having representatives from the NHS, mental health professionals and psychologists, headmasters of multiple special needs schools and representatives of multiple mental health services present at various meetings, and this allowed us to successfully network with all of them and maintain positive relationships with all of them to this day.
I have also been a member of Ealing’s Strategic Co-Production Board since 2023, where the purpose of this Board is to take all of the co-chairs of all of the various partnership boards as well as various senior stakeholders in order to take all of the plans and ideas from all of the partnership boards and follow the road map laid out to turn these ideas and plans to tangible results. We have had multiple heads of service, the strategic director for adult social care for Ealing and the local MP for Ealing attend these meetings and we have highlighted exactly where social care is lacking, created plans to help to improve these areas and highlight new ideas such as using newer technology in care, the lack of services and support for neurodivergent people over the age of 25 and how little awareness there is for support for elderly residents. We are currently in the process of creating plans to address and fix these problems.
Finally, I have also been appointed as a co-optee in a large-scale Health and Adult Social Services Scrutiny Panel since January 2025; working with Councillors, directors of social care for Ealing, directors of the NHS and other specialists to scrutinize health and social services for people across the borough. I have also been invited to speak to 2 different school’s autistic students to talk about life, answer any questions or queries they have and to inspire them to follow their hopes and dreams in life. We have scrutinized issues such as obesity, safeguarding, mental health issues, the dissolution of NHS England, the creation of the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), neurodiversity and many more. I have been a member of these 3 boards simultaneously while also being employed full time.
