
From my apprenticeship and into my working career, I have gained vast experience as a fleet maintance technician with a variety of public service departments gaining alot of knowledge what goes with the role.
Working as a Tradesperson within Transport Services Branch, duties included :-
- Carrying out minor and major service tasks to various vehicles (cars, vans, light goods vehicles, minibuses, trailers) in accordance with manufacturers and inhouse schedules.
- Carrying out mandatory roadworthiness inspections and safety inspections in accordance with MOT and inhouse standards.
- Diagnosing and repairing all level of faults, minor and major, electrical and mechanical, using gained knowledge and diagnostic equipment.
- Carrying out authorised modifications to vehicles and equipment as and when necessary.
- Identifying parts required and ordering same both through internal systems and external contractors.
- Reporting / complying with Health & Safety Regulations.
- Prioritising work to maximise fleet availability.
Working as a Civilian Security Officer in Palace Barracks, duties included :-
- Providing armed physical security both at Palace Barracks and other Ministry of Defence sites as and when required.
- Controlling access / egress from sites.
- Carrying out person and vehicle searches.
- Operating and communicating effectively using radio and telephone systems.
- Dealing with all forms of incidents and attacks.
- Reporting / complying with Health & Safety Regulations.
- Carrying out reception duties acting as a focal point for members of the public.
- Operating the CCTV system, observe and report as necessary.
- Driving the Response Vehicle.
Working as a Vehicle Mechanic / Examiner at Dunmore Army Reserve Centre, duties included :-
- Carrying out minor and major servicing to various vehicles (cars, vans, light goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, trailers, Land Rovers, armoured tracked vehicles) in accordance with manufacturers and military schedules.
- Carrying out annual mandatory roadworthiness inspections and safety inspections in accordance with MOT and military standards.
- Diagnosing and repairing all level of faults, minor and major, electrical and mechanical, using gained knowledge and diagnostic equipment.
- Identifying parts required and ordering same both through internal system and external contractors.
- Carrying out authorised modifications to vehicles and equipment as and when necessary.
- Examining and certifying workshop lifting equipment.
- Operating lorry mounted crane.
- Providing fleet support both local and national when vehicles were required on exercise.
- Reporting / complying with Health & Safety Regulations.
Working as a Vehicle Mechanic at Kinnegar Logistics Base, (Apprentice September 1998 - October 2001) duties included :-
- Carrying out minor and major servicing to various vehicles (cars, vans light goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, coaches, trailers, Land Rovers, variety of specialised armoured Army wagons) in accordance with manufacturers and military schedules.
- Diagnosing and repairing all level of faults, minor and major, electrical and mechanical, using gained knowledge and diagnostic equipment.
- Removing and replacing major components eg. Engines, gearboxes, axles.
- Identifying required parts and ordering same through internal system and external contractors.
- Carrying out chassis up rebuilds on Snatch Land Rovers.
