Performing Fishery patrols on the Foyle River system to disrupt and detect Salmon poaching activities during the Salmon migratory run to spawn in the rivers.
Assist full time Fishery officers with Electro Fishing to monitor river health and species present.

Maintaining vehicles and boats and ancillary equipment in a serviceable condition.

Monitoring Fishing Vessels at Sea via satellite and computer monitoring Systems.
Preparing paperwork in relation to vessels return to Port.
Monitor unloading of catch and checking fishing quotas per vessel.
Submitting returns of data and actions via computer based programs.
Enforcement of domestic and E.U Fishery Policy.
Following all safety precautions in relation to Boarding and Leaving Vessels in Port and adhering to Port Operations Standing Orders.
Responsible for Fishery Patrols on North Morecambe Bay in all seasons and weathers to principally interrupt Cockle poaching activities on closed Cockle beds on the Bay.
The Winter period of November and December 2009 was particularly severe and patrols were maintained on the bay to counteract poaching. This was mostly done on foot and quad bike and sometimes lone working but mostly in pairs.
This was 90 percent outdoors in all weathers with the remaining ten percent dealing with record keeping and maintenance issues.
Morecambe Bay in Winter is bleak Cold and hazardous but I have got to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
