This has provided me with the opportunity to take the step towards adult refereeing. Gaining experience in dealing with criticism and complaints from sometimes dissatisfied players. This gives me experience dealing with challenging situations whilst maintaining professionalism, and remaining respectful and polite.
I am an official junior referee, interacting with different people each week, including players, coaches, and managers. Being a referee has allowed me to enhance my communication skills, confidence in meeting new people, and decision-making.
When volunteering to complete work experience in Skanska, I was excited to be introduced into the engineering industry as this will be beneficial to achieving my end goal. For my project, I was assigned with a task to design a new sports facility for my school. This involved me selecting appropriate materials, structural systems and analysing my competition within the local area. Throughout this time, I was able to learn how to use 3D CAD engineering software. At first, I found it very difficult to use. I was determined to have an idea on how to use this technology so I used my initiative to watch YouTube videos to improve my skills. I was able to grasp the software by practicing with new designs that I could use to get the best result out of my drawings.
