Neurologist with over 15 years of experience as a consultant, specializing in Parkinson's disease. Full-time neurology consultant at a busy district hospital for the past decade. Conducted research on the neuropathology of Parkinson's and earned a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience from the University of Oxford.
Diagnosis and management of neurological conditions in inpatients (mainly Basingstoke Hospital, BNH) and in the outpatient setting (BNH, Winchester, Andover, Southampton).
Ward referral cover at BNH (week long, 1 in 4 rotation).
Three weekly general neurology clinics (F2F and telephone).
Four/month specialist Parkinson's clinics across Hampshire sites (BNH, Winchester, Southampton), one of which MDT with PD nurse and Occupational therapy.
On call rota for Wessex, based at Southampton General Hospital (1 in 12 weeks, weekend cover).
Fortnightly cross-site (Basingstoke and Winchester teams) neurology departmental meetings for clinical governance.
Fortnightly Neuroradiology MDT meeting.
Regular (weekly/fortnightly) case review with PD and epilepsy nurses.
Neurology teaching sessions to junior doctors and general medicine consultants at Basingstoke hospital.
Research clinics for OPDC Discovery Cohort (observational study with extensive data collection in PwP); PhD project based in the
neuropathology department.
Activities included study visits with collection of clinical and biological data (blood sampling, CSF, skin biopsies) at John Radcliffe Hospital, Amersham Hospital, Horton Hospital, Heatherwood Hospital.
I was Principal Investigator for one of the research sites (Heatherwood Hospital).
For my PhD, I investigated the potential for gut biopsy tissue to provide insights into the diagnosis and/or prognosis of Parkinson's disease.
Samples from patients and healthy controls participating in the Discovery cohort were collected from across the Thames Valley. They were then stained with immunohistochemistry (alpha-synuclein) and with experimental techniques (PET blot, Proximity Ligation Assay).
Weekly (Saturday) neurology waiting list/1st seizure clinics
General neurology, outpatient and inpatient, on-call.
Daily review of patients with Parkinson's and atypical Parkinsonism based on long-term rehabilitation ward
Neuropathological research in movement disorders, mainly exploring clinico-pathological correlations on nervous tissue (brain and spinal cord) donated to the Parkinson Disease UK Tissue Bank (based
at Hammersmith Hospital, London) by subjects affected by Parkinson' disease and related movement disorders.
Activities included brain dissection and sampling, microscopic analysis of specimens (H&E + immunohistochemistry), review of clinical cases.
Neurology consultant in a Centre for Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders.
Diagnosis and management of Parkinson's disease and atypical Parkinsonian syndromes including PSP, MSA, CBD, DLB. Screening of
PwP for DBS and infusion therapies (Apomorphine, Levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel).
Research on neuropathology of Parkinson's with post-mortem brain examination. In this context, I set up and managed a brain bank.
