For over 35 years, the majority of my working life has been as a caring, committed teacher of English Language, Literature and English as a Foreign Language, in addition to ESOL (particularly in my volunteer work), with a conscientious, student/person centred approach. I therefore have extensive experience of working in a diverse, multicultural environment, one which requires a strong awareness of diversity and different needs. In my most recent, paid employment (more than 24 years) I had responsibility for pastoral care of individual students , and supporting and mentoring less experienced staff. My more recent and continuing voluntary work with asylum seekers and refugees in the local area involves a great deal of sensitivity and compassion. This experience has only served to strengthen my desire to make a difference where I can.
