Work history

Vehicle technician

Sytner Land Rover
Wakefield
09.2020 - Current

Since joining Sytner Land Rover in September 2020 as a Level 2 JLR Technician, I have progressed to the position of Master Technician, consistently taking on new challenges and responsibilities. My role involves carrying out in-depth diagnostics using specialist JLR tooling and equipment, as well as completing complex mechanical and electrical repairs such as engine replacements, cylinder head repairs, and work on chassis and driveline components. I also perform routine maintenance to manufacturer standards while ensuring all work is thoroughly documented and compliant with JLR's continually evolving warranty procedures. As a master technician, I have completed JLR's client experience training, which has strengthened my ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly, manage customer expectations, and handle challenging situations professionally. Throughout my time at Sytner, I have developed strong teamwork and leadership skills, understanding the importance of both following instructions and guiding others. I hold the qualification of Electric Vehicle Senior Authorised Person, enabling me to work safely on high-voltage systems, and I am also a certified MOT tester and approved tracker fitter.

Vehicle Technician, JLR Specialised

Green Oval Garage
Leeds
03.2020 - 09.2020

In March 2020, I joined Green Oval Garage in Leeds, an independent Land Rover specialist that provided a very different environment from the main dealer setting I was used to. Fresh out of my apprenticeship, I quickly learned to stand on my own two feet and take greater ownership of my work. This role helped me develop strong time-management skills and required me to be much more client facing, regularly speaking directly with customers to fully understand their concerns and resolve issues effectively and efficiently. My time at Green Oval was a significant period of personal and professional growth, and the experience played a major role in shaping the technician I am today.

Light Vehicle Apprentice Technician

Guy Salmon Land Rover
Stratford - Upon - Avon
09.2016 - 03.2020

My apprenticeship at Guy Salmon was a three-year City & Guilds programme, during which I achieved my Level 3 qualification and gained JLR Specialised Level 2. Throughout the apprenticeship, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of experienced technicians, learning different approaches and developing a strong technical foundation. My responsibilities included standard vehicle maintenance, general workshop upkeep, and being appointed as the person responsible for managing all specialist tools, ensuring they were clean, safe, and in full working order. I was regularly assessed by a JLR assessor on all aspects of the role, from basic sensor replacements to more advanced fault-finding and repair work. The continuous training across the three years gave me extensive knowledge of JLR products and systems, which continue to evolve and remain central to my career development.

Bar staff member

The Navigation Inn
Kings Norton, Birmingham
04.2016 - 09.2016

In this role, I developed strong customer service skills, learning how to make customers feel welcome and ensuring I always provided service with a positive attitude. I was responsible for making sure customers were satisfied with their experience, whether they were ordering a simple drink or a full three-course meal. I handled money and ensured it was stored and recorded correctly at all times, I also restocked the bar efficiently during busy periods. This position required me to be multi-skilled, and thanks to my previous kitchen experience, I was able to support colleagues across different areas whenever needed.

Waiter

The Reservoir
Earlswood
06.2015 - 04.2016

My first role here was as a chef, where I took great care to ensure every meal was prepared to a high standard and cooked safely and consistently. I also worked in the Wacky Warehouse, gaining valuable experience in supervising and caring for children, always aiming to make them feel comfortable and happy. In addition, I worked as a waitress, providing friendly service, delivering food and drinks promptly, and handling money accurately and responsibly. These combined roles strengthened my ability to work with people, and I enjoyed engaging with customers and colleagues alike, as I am naturally friendly and confident meeting new people.
