My zeal to save life led to my seeking for and gaining admission into the medical school. I graduated in 2014 after which I made a decision to become a specialist in microbiology due to the many infectious diseases I came across during my internship. My training experience commenced in 2018 at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Nigeria and has been filled with numerous learning and development opportunities. In line with the curriculum of the Faculty of Pathology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), I did rotations for one year in chemical pathology, hematology and histopathology. This enabled me to appreciate the significant overlap among the Pathology specialties and gave me a good foundation for my training in microbiologyand virology where I spent additional one year. On passing NPMCN Part One examination in medical microbiology in 2020, I was appointed a senior registrar. I proceeded to do rotations in internal medicine, pediatrics and surgery. At these core clinical departments, I participated in the management of various infectious diseases which helped to broaden the knowledge and skills that I gained from my junior residency training.

Following interactions with my mentor who is currently a consultant microbiologist practicing in UK, I understood that there were some gap areas in my training compared to a UK trainee which I intended to fill. Hence I secured an NHS job which helped improve my microbiology knowledge and skills immensely, within one year of working in NHS microbiology, I passed the FRCPath part 1 microbiology and virology exam and susequently passed the FRCpath 2  microbiology exam in spring 2025.  My ultimate aim is to attain a certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) and to continue to offer evidence based best infectious disease practice to the NHS.

• In my present role in the last one year, I have delivered many teaching sessions including;
• Teaching sessions with the Fy1 doctours on outbreak management and taking infection history.
• Teaching session with the FY2 doctors on Staphylococcus aures bacteremia
• Teaching sessions with the biomedical Scientists on Legioniare's disease and meningococcal meningitis.
• Also, during phone consultations, I have had to teach the junior doctors the relevance of some microbiology results and the implication of antimicrobial choices.
• In my previous roles, I had to teach medical students and other resident doctors during their microbiology posting on the following topics;
• Specimen collection; urine, blood culture, swabs including genital, cerebrospinal fluid, skin scrapping, skin snip, skin slit.
• Transportation of specimens to the laboratory.
• Utility of laboratory staining techniques.
• Microscopy, culture and susceptibility testing for different for common microbiological specimen.
• Growth media used in microbiology.
• Serological diagnosis in the microbiology laboratory.
• Interpretation of common microbiology results.

• In my present role, I am the organiser of the weekly educational meetings which hold every Thursday. I make a schedule for presenters and send out links for the meeting.
• I have also attended the Microbiology Manager's meeting during which I gave useful contribution to questions raised.
• In my past role, I became actively involved in the management activities of the hospital when I was appointed the chief resident doctor in the department on 26th April, 2021. That automatically made me a member of the Chief Resident Doctors Committee of the Association of Resident Doctors in University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH). The Committee met annually with the hospital management to discuss issues pertaining to resident doctors and residency training. I held weekly meetings with the head of the department to discuss departmental activities for the microbiology resident doctors. In preparation for the re-accreditation of the microbiology residency training programme of the hospital which held on 26th June 2021, I was part of a meeting with the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital to plan for it. I was invited to make inputs in the hospital Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) meetings which held quarterly in the hospital.

• Team work is my strength, I enjoying communicating and sharing concerns with colleagues getting input from everyone regardless of cadre especially during clinical consultation.
• I have been involved in an audit with a senior colleague and we were able to complete the audit in due time with useful results.
• In the last year, I involved in a Christmas party organisation for our social group of about 15 families and it was a huge success because activities were delegated and there was a great communication amongst the team.
