My experiences so far, at the age of 17 years old, have given me a great opportunity to explore and develop the skills that are crucial to being a core part of being an effective member of the pupil leadership group at Cheltenham College.
My early experience of living in a school boarding house gave me exposure not only to aspirational characters but also enveloped me in a positive and energetic culture which enjoyed success.
Being awarded an exhibition for sport at College was a pivotal moment for me, I worked very hard for it. I have enjoyed the opportunities sport has given me to work hard to a common goal, display my commitment, deal with disappointment and bounce back, support others and learn to listen as well as talk. I have viewed these as full school opportunities.
I have been determined to make the most of all opportunities afforded to me at College, enjoying house singing, the opportunity to direct and act in the House Show. I was very pleased I was asked to return to school and take responsibility with others, for the 3rd form inset with Hazelwell. I have taken any responsibilities given to me such as sign in seriously and I am proud not to have recieved a detention during my time at school.
My achievements in Boyne have led me to be awarded my House Colours.
I am responsible for the day to day maintenance of all aspects of a small comercial game shoot during the school holidays. The requirements of this change through the year as a different empahisis is placed on certain aspects of the shoot. Prior to the season there is a great deal to do on maintenance and upkeep, moving to taking direct responsibility for just under 3000 birds which are delivered.
The role requires a great deal of autonomy, communication with others, working to deadlines, attention to detail, being innovative and reacting to external situations. I have to be determined to succeed as there is no room for complacency eg when feeding the birds.
During the season, when on school holidays, I help to host the shoot days ensuring guests are welcomed and looked after guiding them around the shoot. I am also responsible for safety on the shoot and have to be confident to challenge unsafe behaviour.
I am presentable, have to communicate well and have to ensure I have a very good understanding of the plan, asking for direction if I am unsure.
