Working for Bladefence was a great opportunity which gave me a good understanding of blade repair and the tools, equipment, materials and methods essential to be able to carry out the work. As well as the importance of environmental factors and weather conditions.
It has also trained me to be able to work effectively and safely as a team or alone at all times in a deadline driven work environment that has no margin for error, with safety for everyone being top priority.
Working in a very fast pace environment such as Fairlee Service Station increased my ability to operate calmly and efficiently under pressure, whilst still upholding a very high standard of work quality. I was also able to develop my mechanical, electrical and diagnostic knowledge even further whilst working there along side of very skilled technicians.
Within this line of diverse work I was able to develop new skills working with a vast amount of different tools, equipment and materials to obtain a high quality end result that the customer and myself were satisfied with.
Not only was it essential to take the initiative at times when working alone, but just as important to be able to work professionally and cooperatively as a team to ensure a safe and effective work flow.
Working at Sydenhams I acquired a wide range of skills and understanding of the fundamentals of house building materials and methods, and importantly I learned a huge amount about health and safety conduct, which I would carry on in my professional career. After 2 years there I was proficient in all the departments and was able to be utilised as needed and certified to use the heavy machinery and saws safely and effectively.
Whist doing my apprenticeship I gained a strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic understanding, as well as becoming confident and diligent using a wide range of tools and equipment. I also learnt welding and fabricating skills, which I developed over the years to become a confident and effective at both.
I completed my apprenticeship in 2013 but was able to stay on at the company as a fully qualified technician and develop my skills and knowledge further.
