Charles Gahagan

Responsible for ensuring the safety of guests children whilst they were on the summer adventure program. This included taking them around the hotel, guiding them through and instructing them during activities and making sure they had an enjoyable experience. Sometimes activities were unexpectedly cancelled and I would have to improvise without compromising their enjoyment. The age range I looked after was primarily 3-12 years old, with groups of as many as 10 people. I also had to communicate with parents often, to keep them updated on what their child has been doing.

I volunteered at the Astley Ainslie Hospital working in the neurological postcare ward. In this position I was charged with making people as comfortable as possible during their stay, which often meant talking to the patients, serving refreshments and doing any small jobs I was told to by the nurses. The challenge of this role was understanding that people were all facing different challenges, and trying to help each of them uniquely. This helped me improve my ability to deal with a variety of individuals with many types of neurological challenges.

Responsible for collecting and organising donations, working on the computerised till and helping customer with queries. This was a very dynamic role, involving both back and front of house work and being efficient to ensure everything got done.
