Summary

I've always wanted to explore a career in the catering industry, because cooking has always inspired me, even though I haven't had many chances to practice it properly. Whilst I may not have a big kitchen or all the tools, but I still find ways to learn through watching videos, reading recipes, and trying out what I can with what I have. I'm excited by the idea of turning simple ingredients into something amazing. Being a chef feels like the perfect path for me, and I am ready to work hard, learn, and grow, no matter where I'm starting from.

My job entails a lot of food handling whether I'm preparing food for the customers in the takeaway or preparing food in batches for the restaurant dishes, I've had extensive training in food safety and hygiene and demonstrate these practices often to maintain a clean work environment whilst avoiding contamination and creating quality food. I work as a part of a team, often communicating well and leading others to efficiently serve customers and provide them with the best experience possible. Recently, new members of staff have been taken on, I was given the responsibility of training them up, showing them how to safely handle food and clean effectively, adhering to strict hygiene standards.

  • Communication - Working as part of a team, I needed to be able to communicate with my colleagues well to ensure food was sent out as quickly as possible whilst retaining a high quality and being handled correctly
  • Team Leadership - With new staff being hired, I am often left in charge of multiple inexperienced workers that I help and direct to get food out efficiently, and to get all jobs completed before the end of the shift
  • Time management - My current job, when busy, is quite fast paced which has improved my ability to prioritise tasks, manage time efficiently, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic Culinary techniques - I've practiced knife skills at a relatively low level and I have a standard knowledge of different food preparation techniques
