  • Quality control of food samples.
  • Sampling food effectively adding correct volume BPW, stomaching the sample then placing remaining sample into bags then boxes for storage (7days).
  • Plating out from sample bags and from swaps.
  • Noting the difference in quantity of pipetted material with regards to different agar types and whether pre-poured (like BCC, BCA, etc.) or needs poured (like GA, SPA, TBX, etc.).
  • Emptying the chills of samples when 7 days has elapsed.
  • Careful handling of liquids including hazardous substances when adding to samples or swaps e.g. MTSB to E.coli samples.
  • Spiking samples for quality assurance testing.
  • Putting samples into the correct temperature incubator.
  • Health and Safety- As the H&S person on the site perform weekly walk arounds looking to make sure that everything is in working order and not damaged e.g. floor tiles haven't lifted which could be a trip hazard.
  • Perform weekly fire alarm tests and monthly fire alarm drills.
  • Write COSHH risk assessments and ensure records of chemicals on-site is correct and up-to-date.
  • Write risk assessments for the whole lab.
  • Write manual handling presentation and deliver manual handling training, which I am certified to do.
  • Write presentations for new employees with regards to COSHH, material hazard symbols and fire training as some come from non-lab backgrounds.
