Call handler
NHS24
03.2024 - 01.2025
As a call handler, I was the first point of contact for patients in out of hours, this required the ability to accurately and efficiently document information, record patient information and recognise immediately life threatening scenarios and escalate appropriately.
I was able to offer empathetic and active listening to distressed callers, providing reassurances where necessary and deescalate tense situations with calm and patient communication.
I was able to ensure patient confidentiality and dignity while handing over to the responsible healthcare professional and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to aid the patient in their medical query.
During this time, I dealt with a high volume of calls which required prompt service delivery whilst assisting patients to the best of my abilities as a call handler, recognising when a request was out with my remit and referring to the appropriate professional.
Working under the clinical supervision of the nursing team at NHS24 inspired my to pursue my own career in nursing.
Relief Support Worker
Autism Initiatives (AI)
02.2023 - 01.2025
Working on a one-to-one basis or two-to-one basis in this role, I have worked with service users and empowered them to be active in the community and pursue their interests. I am highly capable in this role, following Positive Behaviour Support, using individualised approaches, personal development plans, professional development plans, and writing daily reports, in accordance with workplace protocols. During my time with AI, I have also had the opportunity to undertake many training experiences including, medication administration, epilepsy awareness, autism awareness, and PROACT-SCIPR-Scotland which allows me to de-escalate crisis situations using therapeutic techniques primarily as a proactive measure rather than a reactive necessity.
Duty Manager
Heriot-Watt Student Union
09.2019 - 01.2023
During term-time, I have worked at my university’s Student Union since 2019. I started as a catering assistant and was promoted to duty manager which allowed me to fulfil more roles. During a transitional stage between chefs, I managed the preparation of caterings for sports teams and organised weekly deep cleans of the kitchen. I also maintained stock levels, placing orders with suppliers whilst reducing food waste where possible.
As a duty manager, I’ve found it helpful to always be flexible in the case of unexpected scenarios. Due to last minute events and staff illness, I’ve had to be adaptable on many occasions. I’ve worked FOH on bar, serving pints, and in the cafe, making coffees and rolls. I have also worked in the shop, restocking shelves, and serving customers, offering advice on products whilst being friendly.
During shifts, as a manager, I was responsible for the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the building, especially in the event of an emergency. If there were any customer issues, often I would have to speak to the customer and be understanding and try to come up with the best solution for everyone involved. I would also aid in the smooth running of the business, delegating additional tasks for everyone if we were quiet, and ensuring we were always maintaining hygiene. At the end of the shift, I would count the safe and tills and use excel to pass this onto the finance department, before setting the alarms and locking up the building.
Credit Management Assistant
The Open University
06.2019 - 09.2021
After being invited back to work at the Open University Student Budgets Accounts (OUSBA) in a seasonal role during summer, I have utilised my own initiative and confidence, making and receiving calls regarding student loans. I was also able to demonstrate my strong work ethic, completing the applications assigned to me as efficiently as I could. This role showed I am capable of working quickly without sacrificing quality before deadlines, whilst reassuring stressed customers during peak periods. I was also able to develop my computer and finance skills, using excel and Pancredit to determine the affordability and payment plans for students taking out a loan. Additionally, using student database circe and VOICE, I was able to assist students with their loan applications to ensure their enrolment onto their desired course and refer them onto colleagues in different departments that would be able help them with other aspects of their degree enrolment.
