I currently work at a SEN school as a teaching assistant, my duties include supporting children with diverse learning needs, enabling them to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. Assisting students with their learning by providing tailored support, particularly if they have specific challenges such as ADHD, autistic spectrum disorder, dyslexia, or physical disabilities. Assisting with Classroom Management, Helping maintain a positive and organized classroom environment. Supporting the teacher with managing students' behaviour, ensuring that students with SEN are included and not isolated. Help ensure that students stay focused on their tasks. Providing Emotional and Social Support, offering emotional support and encouragement to students who may struggle with social interactions or emotional regulation. Help build students' self-esteem and confidence by offering praise and providing a stable, nurturing environment. Adaptation of Learning Materials, Modify and adapt lesson materials, ensuring that they are accessible for students with various needs (e.g., providing large print, simplified instructions, or visual aids). Work with the teacher to adjust the curriculum to suit individual learning needs. Collaboration with Parents and Professionals - Communicate with parents, careers, and other professionals involved in the student's education and welfare, keeping them informed of progress or concerns. Maintaining Confidentiality - Respect the confidentiality of students' personal information and learning needs, sharing details only, when necessary, with authorized personnel. My role can be very rewarding as you help students overcome barriers to learning and contribute to their personal and academic growth. Required to adapt to the unique needs of each student, so flexibility and patience are key.

I had done work as an advocate previously for almost a year Advocating for Vulnerable Individuals: I learned the importance of protecting the rights and best interests of vulnerable individuals (such as those under guardianship or mental health care), ensuring they are heard, and their voice is represented in decision-making processes. Human Rights: Ensuring that the relevant person’s human rights are respected, particularly when it comes to personal freedoms, autonomy, and dignity. I developed an understanding of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals, ensuring they are not exploited, and advocating for measures to protect them from harm or abuse. Leveraging experience to provide persuasive verbal and written representations, working independently and with professional discretion. Handling sensitive information responsibly, travel regularly to visit beneficiaries, and ensure their voices are heard and their rights upheld.

I started working at Innova house in 2016 after college I have been there for 6 years and counting. Innova House Healthcare is an independent provider of professional care and support services for men, women and young adults all with either disabilities, mental health or acquired brain injury. Within this role I have supported service users with independent living skills, personal care, activities and emotional support also by treating people with dignity and respect, focusing on people's potential and strengths, valuing each person as a unique individual, listening non-judgemental to people experiences, also being genuinely concerned for the person's well-being and being creative and initiative when supporting someone to realise their potential. Whilst also working as a team to ensure each site within Innova house is run smoothly and everyone's on the page when delivering the care required. This job has taught me that disabilities does not mean less of anything; less opportunity; less normality or less ability. It means we have a whole range of ways of making things possible and the journey to personal success in each and every service user takes off as staff on an adventure of knowledge and pride whilst learning new skills and knowledge each and every day. It's also taught me good time keeping skills ensuring every document is factual and correct and good time keeping skills and to work as a team.
