On completion of basic and specialist training which lasted for approximately 24 months, I was employed as a logistics officer in a variety of roles, including shore appointments and deployments at sea and overseas. In each role I was required to be a motivated self-starter, capable of working autonomously and as part of a team. Coping with and responding to change, managing professional challenges, and problem solving skills were an essential part of each position I held.
Another important aspect of each position I held was the pastoral and professional responsibility for those working in my team.
My final two roles appointments in the Royal Navy were in HMS Raleigh, the training establishment for new recruits. During this time my primary function was the responsibility for the training and wellbeing of all trainees. This included trainees who were experiencing significant personal/family difficulties, physical and medical issues, and those who were struggling with their training for any other reason. This required a close working relationship with the trainees, training and medical staff, as well as other key external stakeholders.
