  • Managing the customer accounts includes duties such as accurate record-keeping with proficient data entry skills whilst inputting invoices on to the system and allocating incoming payments. Handling sensitive information discreetly maintaining high level confidentiality when sending out monthly statements to the customers and contacting them to discuss their accounts.
  • When fulfilling the days deliveries duties first include contacting the customers to take their orders, picking the products from the warehouse and loading and securing them safely in the van then creating the invoices. Planning the most efficient route using sat nav before setting off. Whilst out making the deliveries it's important to maintain a high level or customer service with a smile and patience when needed. There is also some cash handling which of course must be carefully and accurately kept and recorded as well as receipts for expenses such as fuel.

Please note I worked here previously from September 2015 until December 2021 as well, during which time I was also responsible for managing and organising stock levels, placing orders with suppliers and dispatching palleted orders to franchise. I left after having my second child in September 2021.

I managed all aspects of the running of the scrap yard whilst here as listed below;

  • Dealing with customer enquiries regarding parts availability and taking vehicle details to quote for.
  • Working out vehicle quotes based on parts resale prices including current price we were receiving on iron from the recycling centres.
  • Booking the collection of the cars once the price was agreed.
  • Accurately recording vehicle and customer details on the system including costs and profits against each one.
  • Arranging the order in which the vehicles were depolluted.
  • Carrying out daily checks around the yard to ensure the safety and security of all machinery etc.
  • Listing cars for sale on ebay as well as parts.
  • Producing certificates of destruction for the vehicles once they had been depolluted.
  • Regularly contacting the recycling centres for the prices on metal to ensure we were always getting the best price we could.
  • Handling and banking cash (and cheques) from any walk in sales of parts or vehicles.

I really enjoyed this job, the only reason it came to an end was that unfortunately the climate for scrap metal at this time kept falling and we were operating at a loss. I had also began a Wamitab course but due to the position coming to an end, so did my course.

Affiliations

  • All of my free time is centered around my two children who I care for solely and obviously adore - they are of course, my world!
  • I love rebounding and usually attend two classes a week to help stay healthy.
  • We have a dog who is the man of our house, we enjoy taking him for walks in new and old places and he generally comes everywhere with us.
  • Spending time with family is a big priority for us, home visits or little trips out.
  • Our favourite place is Dorset and we travel down there a few times a year, often just a few days at a time for a little break and much needed down time for the 3 of us.
