In October 2024 I had the opportunity to work with Fortwilliam Electrical for a week as part of my GCSE work experience. Our main job was to rewire a house and carry out additional jobs. The rewire included activities such as ripping up floorboards throughout the house, clear out old wiring, installing a new breaker into which we ran wires from both up and downstairs. We also installed a variety of lights in the property including spot lights in the living room, upstairs bedroom lights and exterior flood lights. I also installed sockets throughout the house as well as smoke alarms and an oven giving me the opportunity to use a wide variety of materials and tools. The last job was to ensure the property was clean and tidy as the home owners are expecting to return to a mess but if they come home to a clean and tidy house, this reflects well on the business. During my week's work experience I became aware of the necessity of carefully monitoring my time management on particular jobs and working within a tight schedule for any given day, and was always punctual at the start of each day. I enjoyed learning about the different skills employed while participating in the various jobs carried out during the week.
