Work Experience

Southeastern Trains & Laing O’Rourke
Slade Green, Bexley
06.2020 - 06.2020

Gained valuable practical experience. During my work experience at Southeastern Trains, I worked in the engineering department, observing how trains are maintained, and defects are repaired. Gaining a real understanding of how technical systems are designed and operated to ensure safety and efficiency.
Further honing my engineering skills, I undertook a placement with Laing O'Rourke, where I worked with CAD software to create blueprints for office buildings. In addition, I participated in a project with the Construction Youth Trust, where I worked as part of a team to design a community center, creating a 3D design model with each component having a cost, and a total project budget we had to adhere to.
All of these experiences, coupled with my educational background, have strengthened my ability to work collaboratively in teams, think analytically, and approach challenges with innovative solutions. I am excited to bring these skills to the university and further develop my engineering knowledge. I look forward to contributing to the field of engineering and using my skills to make a positive impact on society long-term.

Skills

From a young age, my interest in engineering began with LEGO, where I would spend hours, building and learning the basics of design, mechanics, and problem-solving As I grew older, this interest developed further with Minecraft, where I improved my skills by building various worlds incorporating features such as Redstone In basic terms creating circuits that use logic gates to power and control systems within the game, allowing me to explore different engineering concepts These early experiences taught me how to think logically, experiment with systems, and build innovative solutions, laying the groundwork for my passion of engineering
Being an integral part of a team designing a model F1 car in the F1 in Schools STEM competition was a fantastic extra-curricular opportunity We focused on aerodynamics and tested our designs using wind tunnels to optimise performance Our hard work paid off as we reached the regional finals and were awarded a visit to Silverstone Racetrack This experience enhanced my understanding of aerodynamics, precision engineering, and teamwork, all while applying theoretical knowledge to a practical, high-pressure project
One of my proudest achievements was being part of the team that won the Zayed Sustainability Prize Global High Schools Award at COP28 in Dubai, where I had the privilege of accepting the award, presented by the President of the UAE Our beekeeping project created sustainable products such as honey and candles, which we sold to raise funds for all the local schools in the area and will be rolled out nationally to other schools (https://wwwbusinesswirecom/news/home/20231201649250/en/)
