Knowing I did not want to be in construction I had a penny drop moment of realising I can do something that I am passionate about and am genuinely interested in.
So I decided to get my gym qualifications.
I thoroughly enjoy working as a PT, being able to make a legitimate impact on peoples lives.
Getting to learn how to communicate with all sorts of people. Implementing different techniques, and leading by example with my own training and discipline.
It has been extremely rewarding.
After RMC training I continued as a slinger.
I knew I wanted to do something different, just did not know what. So I applied for the Royal Marines.
It is a very rewarding career for some, but once getting into training I realised that life is not something I truly want and thought I will stick to it for a couple months to be sure of my decision and then I left.
Very physically hard however a lot of fun. Massive comradery even though we all barely knew each other.
Even though I was there only for a few months, the discipline of doing field exercises and being truly exhausted has massively helped me in all aspects of life.
I started out as a labourer for two years.
Then I completed my Slinger Signaller A40 CPCS course.
This allows you to work with cranes and other operating vehicles on site.
It is a health and safety critical role that comes with a lot of responsibility.
To be a good slinger, you must be calm under pressure, be good at communicating and have the ability to stay in the moment.
Discipline and Work Ethic:
- Strong self- discipline
- Consistent Execution
- high Personal Standards
- Developed through competitive sports as a child and martial arts training
Problem Solving:
- Staying calm under pressure and handling unexpected situations This was massively developed through being a slinger When doing very big and important lifting operations with tower cranes in central London Sometimes things do not go as planned and you have to adapt to the situation as it happens
