I am coming to the end of my career in the British Army. I am a hard-working individual with hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and safety inspections. I always put in maximum effort to help my team complete our required jobs. I’m a positive thinking person who has had experience in finding solutions to multiple challenges in fast paced environments.
My job within the military consisted of many different roles that all helped me develop a range of skills.
The main job role that I would most often undertake would be completing routine maintenance and daily checks on the vehicles used. I would check over the vehicles ensuring that they were in operational standard. I would then use the skills taught to perform maintenance where necessary, this included but was not limited too:
-replace and refit tyres
-check vehicle battery’s and replace if needed
-changing filters
-greasing vehicle parts in order to reduce friction and prevent wear
-stripping and replacing external vehicle armour
-various other minor modifications.
I would also carry out a range of other duties that needed me to work well in a team and develop a keen eye for details to ensure that nothing was missed. This included:
- monitoring and accounting for stock
- keeping a clean and orderly workplace
- helping others to ensure all jobs were completed to a high standard.
During my training in the British Army, I was also taught my trade of being a fitter. This training included carrying out brake changes on land rovers, as well as removing and replacing excavator tracks. A large part of the training however was focused on fault finding on plant equipment. We would often work in pairs to narrow down the cause of the problem and try to find a solution.
