I believe that my passion for the industry in my private life really drives my want for success in my career, as I spend most of my free time on project cars and restorations. Through these activities, I have learned several valuable skills including a competency in hand tools and metal working, including welding and other specialist skills. These experiences have helped me greatly in my career so far, allowing me to being able to look at various issues with an engineering mind-set and the ability to comprehend engineering solutions and drawings. Having these previous working experiences has allowed me to improve greatly on my communication skills, be that verbal, written or digital communication.
I started and am currently enrolled in a mechanical fitting apprenticeship at BAE Systems, joining last September and I am currently in my second year. Whilst working here I have gained a plethora of skills, including building on my competency with various tools and pieces of metal working equipment, the ability to read and understand technical drawings, correct working processes and several others.
I completed a 2 year apprenticeship with Wight Heating and gained an overall distinction when receiving my qualification, continuing to work for the company for an additional year as a full time engineer. Working here instilled in me a strong work ethic and a keen eye for detail, making me strive for perfection in every job I complete. I had to face lots of challenges working here, which enabled me to learn a lot and has given me strong problem solving skills and a good ability to work under pressure. I worked alongside a good team to install, repair and maintain various complex heating, gas, and hot and cold water systems in a variety of commercial and industrial environments, not only did this variety of complex work allow me to gain numerous technical skills and abilities, it also gave me valuable team working skills.
