Summary

Although I have not yet had full-time paid employment, I have gained valuable experience through volunteering, leadership roles, and paid responsibilities within my basketball club.

I have volunteered at sports camps on several occasions, where I developed strong problem-solving skills and learned to think on my feet. If an activity or plan was not working as expected, I adapted quickly, found effective solutions, and worked with others to ensure everything ran smoothly. These experiences taught me the importance of flexibility, teamwork, and remaining calm under pressure.

I have also volunteered as a Junior NBA referee within my basketball club, officiating games involving younger players. This role required confidence, clear communication, fairness, and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment while ensuring games were played safely and according to the rules.

In addition, I am trusted to work the scoring table during basketball games, a paid role that requires accuracy, concentration, and responsibility. I record scores, fouls, and game statistics while working closely with referees, coaches, and other officials to ensure games run smoothly and professionally.

As a member of my former school's Senior Student Council and in my role as House Captain, I developed excellent leadership, teamwork, and public speaking skills. I regularly planned and led school assemblies for audiences of over 100 pupils, speaking on a variety of topics at least twice a month. This experience strengthened my confidence, communication skills, and ability to lead large groups effectively.

I also completed a week of work experience at Edinburgh Sheriff Court as a Court Officer. During this placement, I gained an insight into the responsibilities and expectations of a professional workplace. I observed how staff worked together to overcome challenges, maintain professionalism under pressure, and deliver an efficient service. This experience reinforced the importance of organisation, adaptability, and effective communication.

Overall, these experiences have enabled me to develop a strong set of transferable skills, including leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, adaptability, and responsibility. I am eager to bring these skills to my first full-time role and continue developing both personally and professionally.
