Supporting information

  • I am applying for the ED nurse post because I am passionate about emergency nursing, assessment and triage, and I want the chance to develop further in an environment in which I thrive and with these skills be a part of innovations in healthcare. I find emergency nursing dynamic, physically and mentally challenging and yet still rewarding, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to expand my role and consolidate my skills further. I want to take part in the innovations that take place in the department through evidence-based studies and research. I am in an exceptional position to bring both excellent clinical competence and the ability to work autonomously together with management skills and leadership qualities.
  • Education/ Qualifications:
  • I have been given opportunities to expand my nursing skills by completing my Mentorship Course. I hold certification in ILS and TILS, attending yearly courses to keep myself updated. I have also attended seminars and conferences like the London Trauma Conference and the Tropical and Infectious Diseases in Emergency Medicine, conducted by the Royal Society of Medicine, which help me stay updated with current trends and standards in emergency and research nursing. I have recently completed my SACT course and passed my Advanced History Taking and Assessment course. I am intent on continuing professional development through education by hopefully joining your team.
  • Knowledge:
  • Being an emergency nurse for many years, I have amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience. It is my duty and objective to be able to share this with my junior staff and colleagues and build on it for me to be able to be an expert practitioner and manager capable of delivering holistic, compassionate and quality care to my patients and their families. I always work within my professional boundaries and responsibilities to ensure the safety of the care that I give to my patients. I have a great interest in resuscitation and minor injuries, and have been involved in improving the flow of patient care in the ED at the John Radcliffe, with the current addition of our urgent care centres and the renovation of the department as well. The department has taken part in a lot of research studies, and I'm glad to say that it has improved the quality of care that we give to patients, concurrent with healthcare trends.
  • My recent post as cancer triage specialist nurse practitioner opened doors to the use of telemed in assessing and triaging patients in the community, and not undermining the importance of using proper assessment and triaging tools to provide compassionate, excellent and holistic care to the patient and support to their families.
  • Skills/ Abilities:
  • Being an experienced emergency nurse, I possess a wide range of both theoretical and practical skills, which make me a valuable asset to any department. I enjoy working clinically in all areas of the department, but mostly in the resuscitation room and in minor injuries, which I think is the heart of the Emergency department. I mentor new starters, students and paramedics and help them gain both knowledge and confidence to carry out their roles on the pathway and workflow of ED. My job and experience also honed me to have very good decision-making skills, especially in a stressful environment like ED, to work autonomously in triage and be able to make decisions and referrals to proper specialities. I have a strong working knowledge of how the Emergency department works and the importance of trust-wide input into its effective management and day-to-day running.
  • Personal Qualities:
  • I have a very jolly and optimistic outlook on life and go with the saying..."You cannot give what you don't have..." which for me means that one has to take care of himself/herself to be able to take care of another person. This makes me more in tune with my thoughts, plan and organise my task at hand and be ready for any untoward incident or emergencies that might come. I have been commended in the department due to my time-management skills and task organisation. I try not to be inundated with tasks by having a timeline and organising my shift properly.
  • I am a team player, open-minded and respectful of others' views and opinions, which made me self-aware of my shortcomings and limitations at times. I love to get involved in all aspects of my current role and get great pleasure from my job, and believe that I can be a great asset to this team and meet the requirements to be a senior staff member.
