I started working at the Walk-in Doctor’s Surgery when it first opened in June 2009. I thoroughly enjoyed the role and took phone calls, sent faxes to other surgeries and greeted and signed in patients, from locals who couldn’t get an appointment at their own surgery, to people working or visiting Bournemouth on holiday. I had a great rapport with the Nurse Practitioners who asked me to move with them when the surgery moved next door on a weekend only basis.

  • Greeted incoming customers in a professional manner and provided friendly, knowledgeable assistance.
  • Answered and helped resolve enquiries from clients and general public.
  • Kept reception area clean and neat to give visitors a positive impression.
  • Delivered front of house duties with warm and professional manner.

I was the first nurse to work in the Pacemaker Theatre and worked alongside Surgeons, Cardiologists and Radiographers. My role was to set up, stock and clean the theatre prior to the 3 operations performed each afternoon Monday to Friday. I stayed with the patient, giving reassurance throughout the procedure as it was done under local anaesthetic. Prior to the operation, I gave the patient an ecg and connected them up to the heart monitor.

  • Reduced patient anxiety prior and during the operation by calmly explaining the process and managing patient queries.
  • Prepared equipment and instruments for surgery, by keeping the theatre well stocked, and putting everything out ready for the operation to take place.
  • Cleaned theatre rooms between operations in line with Infection Control (IC) procedures.
  • Safely moved patients onto trolleys following [Type] procedures.
  • Maintained careful stock control.
  • Assisted operating team in direct patient care by performing Ecg’s and attaching the patient to the heart monitor, ensuring it was working adequately and correctly.

I cleaned Delivery Suites and re-stocked them, and I answered the telephone on the unit and helped with filing.

  • Supported midwives in providing compassionate clinical care to women in labour, during delivery and postnatally.
  • Closely monitored changes in mother or baby's condition, reporting to a qualified Midwife as appropriate.
