Summary

I am currently working as a staff nurse on the respiratory support unit in the RVI. I have completed my full nursing degree and have an active NMC registration. I have completed all training that has been offered to me both mandatory and optional, furthermore I have kept an account of this via the means of certificates. I have a keen awareness of NHS policy and i am aware of where to locate policies on the intranet in order to align my practice with contemporary, up to date knowledge and guidelines. Furthermore, I have experience in safeguarding and I am up to date on how to escalate concerns to the appropriate service. I am able to demonstrate competent IT skills and I am able to adapt and learn new systems with ease if necessary. Moreover, I have experience with IV antibiotics and managing lines/medical devices, as well as O2 lines and delivery systems such as NIV.

I have been qualified for over 18 months now and have worked for around 14 months on the RSU. This area caters for patients with complex needs and co-morbidities, for the large majority relating to type 1 and 2 respiratory failure. I have experienced a wide array of situations from acute deteriorations to palliative care and pain control. Whilst working in this area I have completed training courses in acute illness management and all basic clinical skills , catheter management etc. My time working here has allowed me to fine tune my ability to assess and react to acute deteriorations, as well as manage the dying patient and manage all of their needs. I have experience teaching students and aiding in their progression.

I am a compassionate, dedicated, and motivated registered nurse who is committed to delivering safe, high quality, patient-centred care. I am excited to apply for the Staff Nurse position at the Royal Victoria Infirmary because of its outstanding reputation for clinical excellence, innovation, and commitment to improving patient outcomes. I am eager to become part of a multidisciplinary team where I can continue to develop my clinical knowledge and contribute positively to the care of patients and their families.

Throughout my nursing career, I have gained valuable experience caring for patients with a wide range of physical and emotional needs in busy clinical environments. I have developed strong assessment, communication, and clinical decision making skills, enabling me to provide holistic care while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and respect. I understand the importance of evidence-based practice and continually strive to ensure that the care I provide reflects current clinical guidelines and professional standards.

I work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and recognise that excellent patient outcomes are achieved through collaboration and open communication. I build positive working relationships with colleagues from all professional backgrounds and value the contribution each team member brings to patient care. I am equally confident working independently, managing my own workload, prioritising tasks effectively, and responding calmly under pressure in fast-paced clinical settings.

Patient safety is at the centre of everything I do. I have experience in recognising deteriorating patients, escalating concerns appropriately, administering medications safely, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to infection prevention and control procedures. I understand the importance of safeguarding vulnerable adults, maintaining confidentiality, and practising in accordance with the NMC Code. I take pride in providing compassionate care that not only meets patients' physical needs but also supports their emotional wellbeing during what can often be a difficult time.

I am committed to continuous professional development and actively seek opportunities to expand my knowledge and clinical skills. I welcome constructive feedback and view reflective practice as an essential part of becoming a better nurse. I enjoy learning from experienced colleagues while also supporting students, newly qualified nurses, and healthcare assistants whenever possible, helping to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

The values of Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust strongly align with my own professional values. I believe in treating every patient with kindness, dignity, and respect while delivering care that is safe, effective, and individualised. I am passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives and consistently strive to provide the highest standard of care regardless of the challenges presented during each shift.

I believe my clinical skills, compassionate approach, strong work ethic, and commitment to lifelong learning make me a suitable candidate for this role. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the excellent standards of care delivered at the Royal Victoria Infirmary while continuing to grow professionally within one of the UK's leading NHS Trusts. I am enthusiastic about joining your team and am confident I would make a valuable contribution to both patient care and the wider organisation.
