I have a strong foundation and extensive experience in technical drawing, combined with solid organisational and problem-solving skills. I am knowledgeable about Planning, Listed Building and Building Regulations and confident to be able to produce the level of information required to secure consents. I also have a keen ability to learn and adapt to new software, and have been working with several variations of AutoCad during my career.
During my time at my current employers I have been involved with many listed building projects. I have gained experience in applications for listed buildings, planning and building control approval. Further to this, I have solely undertaken the running of various projects, producing extensive technical information, complying with current building regulations, contract administrating and producing NBS specifications when required.
I currently use autoCad 2026.
Whilst employed here, I was involved exclusively with the £43m extensive refurbishment of the large St. David's 1 shopping mall in Cardiff city centre, which was subsequently adjoined to the £640m newly build St. David's 2 shopping centre.
Further projects included a Salvation Army Northlands hostel scheme in Cardiff, and a housing project for Redrow housing in Devonport, Plymouth. I was responsible within all projects for producing and checking construction drawing, attending site visits and meetings, and assisting with the day to day running of the project alongside the project architect.
During my time here, I was involved predominantly in producing drawings and detailing work for a BT office and call response centre development for British Telecom at Port Talbot.
Since starting my career in 2002, I first worked in SW Scotland with this small practice dealing mainly in private residential projects, properties in need of restoration and/or extensive repair. The company also dealt with listed building and leisure projects. It was whilst working on these projects, I was able to apply close attention to detailing work, which often had to meet with the approval of Historic Scotland. I also gained an understanding of the Scottish Building regulations, which differ to England and Wales due to different construction techniques.
This practice used the PowerCadd software on Apple computers.
I worked mainly as a labourer for various building and landscaping companies, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. I decided during this time, I wanted to follow my interest in architecture, particularly the technical aspect. I attended college alongside working full time.

I was employed as part of a civilian team, trained to clear military ranges of munition devices throughout the UK.
After leaving school, I started work for Argyll and Bute Forestry Commission. A large portion of the job was planting young evergreen trees to replenish the older felled trees. I also conducted soil testing to ensure optimal growth conditions for trees.
A large part of this position was maintaining forestry walks, bridle paths and securing and repairing gateways.
I live with my partner Julie and our 3 dogs. We have a daughter, Rhiannon, who is 23.
I enjoy socialising with friends and family, whether it's meals out or get-togethers at home.
Music is a huge passion of mine and I am a very keen guitarist, having played since the age of 11. I enjoy travelling, watching sport, movies and gardening.
