My role as prescription lead involved the following;
Prescriptions requests were received in many different ways
- Secure email ( requests from Pharmacies, Appliance Companies, District Nurses and Hospitals)
- Prescription phone line messages
- Repeat prescription slips received from patients and pharmacies
- Telephone calls from patients, pharmacies and hospitals
- e-consults
- Face to face queries at the prescription desk Signposting to a pharmacy when necessary
Roles/Tasks:
- Send accrx messages to patients for medication reviews if requested by GP or Pharmacist ( I would send messages for BP reviews if a Pill Check was needed)
- Kept a spreadsheet to order weekly/daily prescriptions for controlled drugs
- Printed blister pack prescriptions requested by pharmacy, these could be Repeat Dispensing or normal 28 days
- Solve problem if prescription would not go EPS, ie; check PDS, dispensing patient, or correct allergy code error
- Change prescription destination when necessary
- Order Prescription boxes and GP Personalised prescriptions for home visits Log all boxes received and sign script boxes in and out daily
- Update Teams message to GP's if a medication was unavailable (usually advised by the pharmacy)
- Train receptionists how to put through prescription requests
- Saving all email prescription requests to patient records
I was also trained in summarising patient records and coding any new diagnosis from hospital letters A new diagnosis or any safeguarding concerns would be brought to the GP's attention
