I have worked with canines for 10 years owning my own dog walking and pet care business.
Previously I worked in dentistry for 13 years.
During my time working in the pet care sector I committed myself to CPD and training and have completed dog training courses alongside First Aid, behaviour and other areas in the canine sector.
In the first few years of starting my business I remember doing small interviews for social media posts to explore different canine vocations and services and Zoe Mycroft at Empowered Canine (formally Cotswold Dog Spa) kindly answered some for me.
I felt then hydrotherapy and rehabilitation was where I wanted to progress in my career- however my business took off and become really busy, and in 2024 I started my journey into Hydrotherapy.
My plan is to provide a combined therapy approach for canines with massage and hydrotherapy from myself. Working alongside Level 6 or above Physiotherapists.
I want our clients to have both and land and hydrotherapy options with rehabilitation therapists working alongside each other in their scope of practice.
Last year I gained my CAM Advocate Level 1 qualification and this year my Level 3 Canine Hydrotherapy qualification.
I am currently coming to the end of my Level 5 EMA Canine Massage and Rehabilitation Practitioner Course.
My plan is to enrol of the Undergraduate Certificate Level 4 in Small Animal Hydrotherapy through Hartypury University this year- I am currently waiting to hear if I have been accepted.
I have also started a Canine Myofascial Practitioners Course through Dr Michele Broadhurst.
Coming from a Dental background and helping my practice gain a CQC regulation pass I am really passionate about regulation and helping our industry move forwards.
I am aware there are a lot of changes happening at the moment in the animal therapy sector and I would like to offer my help to IRVAP for admin, the ICH department and the MT department.
I chose IRVAP as an association to join as you recognise all main vocations for therapy & rehabilitation and look to be progressing industry standards.
Before going into the pet care industry I was in dentistry as a Dental Nurse for 13 years
I have a lot of knowledge in the clinical environment, including the importance of risk assessments, RIDDOR, COSHH, H&S and clinical note taking
I am also a great people person and find it easy to chat, explain and help people feel at ease
Having my own business for 10 years I understand the importance of work ethic, time keeping and being professional
Well running your own business leaves little time for much else, however over the last year I have been trying to do more for myself.
Fitness has always been something I have enjoyed and since the new year I started back with my strength training and I have taken up running. In May I am doing a 7k fun run at Blenheim Palace and a 10k run later in the year.
Last year I took the big step in renting a unit to setup my canine rehabilitation clinic. I have been busy setting that up and hope to open up May/June 2025.
I love to read and don't have a specific genre I stick to but have found it to be a great way to get off the phone and totally switch off.
Me and my husband Pete live in a rural village with our two very senior Basset Hounds who we recused through the BRNGB.
