DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Healthcare Assistant (HCA):

  • Collect various clinical specimens including sputum, stool, urine, and blood, ensuring proper handling and timely delivery to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Perform phlebotomy with precision by carrying out venepuncture and blood specimen collection while strictly adhering to infection control and patient safety protocols.
  • Assess vascular access sites for suitability prior to blood draws and monitor patients for any complications related to phlebotomy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all specimen collections and procedures in patient records following confidentiality and data protection guidelines.
  • Provide general nursing care, document patient progress, and manage clinical reports efficiently.
  • Follow departmental infection control policies and protocols for the storage and management of controlled drugs.
